Wondering the same. Assuming a rejection, but curious still
Do you know of anyone who has heard back with an offer yet?
No lol my only source of info on SG is this forum
When did you interview? Honestly so stressed by this tentative rejection
A friend of mine (current clerk) said they interviewed in 2023 and have still not heard back either way. So there may be a significant delay (maybe waiting to conduct all the interviews and stack rank or something?) But otherwise, I’d think it’s not great form for a competitive firm to conduct a callback and not let someone know one way or another for more than a month.
So nothing since November/December 2023? Damn
Yeah, I know. That was my reaction too. I’m at a different smaller elite litigation shop (W&C/Kellogg/Munger) and I cannot imagine that type of delay. We are also tremendously competitive and I think correctly recognize that — especially in view of the caliber of candidate that we invite for a callback — people deserve a relatively prompt and efficient answer. SG is just a weird place, I guess.
Out of curiosity, what did your friend end up doing? I assume they just accepted another offer? Or are they holding out just for SG? It's especially strange for no update for months given that they must know the people they give callbacks to will have other offers

Anyone with info on Patterson belknap or debevoise NY for positions starting this fall? I applied last month and haven’t heard anything.
Patterson has given out a couple offers and a couple dings.
Damn, if I have heard nothing after submitting my app, should I assume a rejection? Weird since their auto response says they will try to respond “within the next few weeks”

Have some of the bigger firms started moving? I’ve mostly gotten bites from smaller firms but radio silence from big firms in NY/DC so far. Is that accurate to others’ experience or am I just toast wrt any firm over 80 lawyers.

My co-clerks and I have heard from a few big firms but nothing from most of them. One of the ones I heard from said they will be hiring next month.

Current bankruptcy clerk in the DMV area. I spoke with former clerks and was told that it's still early, even at some firms I reached out I was told to check back in a couple of months. I haven't heard of any movement from other clerks who have been applying since January in more prominent districts like the ones you mentioned

(This is the T20 / V10 / SDNY, EDNY, or DNJ Clerk with the PBWT offer.) Sorry to hear about that. I think Patterson is going to be a lot more limited in offers handed out this year. They clearly over-hired last year, I think they brought on a total of 30ish attorneys. It seems like the whole firm is very slow, with something like one-third of associates missing the hours required to get a bonus. Effectively meaning that a good chunk of the firm is under-market. Great lifestyle shop though, billing 1600-1700 hours and still bringing in $250K is nothing to sneeze at.

Thanks for the context, I really appreciate it, and congrats on your offer. Interesting that they are so slow with litigation booming elsewhere. It seems like large firms generally are not hiring a ton of clerks. I only applied to a few places so I’m hoping for the chance to return to my old firm if nothing works out. Just wanted to explore my opportunities.

PBWT associate here: it's more like two-thirds of associates missing hours. But some number of associates who miss hours get full bonus anyway -- pro bono hours count towards bonus for some people and not others based on factors that aren't entirely transparent. It's very feast or famine: if you get staffed on a big J&J case you'll be worked to the bone, and if you don't, you'll bill like 1500 hours. Definitely do not count on PBWT being a lifestyle firm.

Does anyone have info on when you need to tell your previous firm that you’re coming back? I can’t find where my firm told me the timeline before I left—it was either 6 or 3 months. I am interested in one last firm who is holding their reception relatively late so I don’t foresee their hiring process wrapping up before the end of March.

Ask them. It will vary from firm to firm.
