Why is it taking so long for Judge Edelman to get confirmed?
Anyone know what the hold up is with the confirmation of Judge Todd Edleman to DDC?

Republican senators targeted him because he let a guy out on an ankle monitor before trial and that guy was involved in a shooting that killed a kid. (Pretty sure the guy was part of a group of dudes shooting off in a neighborhood and one of the stray bullets killed the kid as he was arriving at an anti-violence cookout). This is from a few senators that I pulled from Wikipedia:
"A child is dead because Judge Edelman didn't do his job, and now he wants a promotion," said Senator Marsha Blackburn after the hearing. Senator Tom Cotton remarked, "Crime in DC and around the country is skyrocketing, no thanks to lenient, liberal judges like Judge Edelman."
I would imagine that this means it may take a little bit for him to get through. But I doubt it’ll stall it forever.

Honestly he may not make it. Reading between the lines: Judge Edelman is probably well-connected and a really nice guy. That's how you get an Art. III nomination in the first place, and that's how he got the Obama D.D.C. nomination. But it's a big deal if it seems like someone you let out during trial killed someone. Even bigger deal if that happens during a wave of panic about crime (yes, crime is relatively low, but people don't feel that way). It would disqualify most potential nominees, but Edelman has the prior D.D.C. nom. Still, he's not going to get any Rs, and can only lose one D (Manchin). If I'm one of the other 50 D senators, I'd ask the administration to find one of the thousands of lawyers in DC who'd want the seat and don't have the baggage of a murder. I say this all with deep respect for Judge Edelman and without judgment for the decision to release someone with an ankle monitor. Sometimes doing the right thing is bad for your personal ambitions.
