The biggest strikeout in Jackson's hiring seems to be Jackson's former circuit.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2023 3:33 pmBig strikeouts for the CA2 gunners...Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2023 3:11 pmUh. I wonder what the outcomes of her CADC hires that didn't end up getting to clerk for her are/will be

Seems that her process will genuinely be less feeder-driven. There also seems no guarantee that her CADC hires will ever get picked up; I know of ones who got knocked out at early stages this year.
It’ll be interesting to see how top liberal students pick clerkships now that regular feeding is basically finished outside of Srinivasan and Boasberg. More geographic targeting? Residual prestige of former feeders? More openness to counterclerking? On the judges’ side, I’ve heard that some have deprioritized feeding in their hiring.

The traditional feeders will continue to work for the conservatives + Kagan until proven otherwise. At least for now, KBJ seems more egalitarian but she may start favoring specific judges over time. Koh could very well end up being the feeder most thought Friedland would be.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2023 7:42 pmSeems that her process will genuinely be less feeder-driven. Re: SCOTUS Clerkship Movement?
Conservative feeders are a whole different kettle of fish, though, and your odds of getting SCOTUS after counterclerking on a COA are very long (some people do of course, but it’s hard enough getting SCOTUS as a liberal who clerked for RAK these days)Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2023 10:28 pmThe traditional feeders will continue to work for the conservatives + Kagan until proven otherwise. Honestly, how does Yale do so well with essentially every justice? Is the faculty this well connected? I go to a lowly T6 that is horrendous at placing students with SCOTUS.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Mar 28, 2023 12:16 pmOceans rise, empires fall....

Re: SCOTUS Clerkship Movement?
Yes but also like for better or worse SCOTUS Justices tend to just view Yale as a better school. I take it you got to NYU and Columbia because you said lowly T6 bad at SCOTUS. Many of these Justices just see YLS students as better, which is why they are more exacting of NYU/CLS.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Mar 28, 2023 4:13 pmHonestly, how does Yale do so well with essentially every justice? Re: SCOTUS Clerkship Movement?
I'm neither a YLS alum nor a SCOTUS clerk so I can't really answer, but it will be interesting to see whether it falls off with the CT/SAA/NMG/ACB (despite the first two of those being alums themselves) as a result of recent events. (I think a meteor would need to wipe out New Haven for CJR and BMK to slow down on YLS hiring.) As it stands now, SCOTUS clerkship placement rate is one of the only reasons for a conservative to choose YLS over HLS, which is a much more hospitable environment for the ideological minority and has been since EK was dean. Even if the justices themselves don't sour on Yale, top conservative law school applicants clustering even moreso at Harvard (and Chicago and UVA) is a reasonable possibility, which could narrow the pool of conservative YLS applicants.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Mar 28, 2023 4:13 pmHonestly, how does Yale do so well with essentially every justice? Plus the YLS student body is unusually well-connected due to its admissions policies and its grading makes it easier to hide nepotism hires

I don’t think there’s such a thing as a “SCOTUS-quality applicant” at the time selection occurs, before you start law school. Some exceptions obviously like e.g. this guy.feugueltsi wrote: ↑Tue Mar 28, 2023 4:33 pmProbably section bias. Re: SCOTUS Clerkship Movement?
Sure but being an exceptional undergrad is basically required to get into all of the T6 (or at least all of HYSC, CLS and NYU are admittedly a bit looser on GPA), not just YLS. And tons of students with that don’t get SCOTUS.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Mar 28, 2023 9:19 pmIdk man, every time i look up these SCOTUS guys linkedin they tend to have something there even if it is "just" like summa/magna cum laude at HYPS. Re: SCOTUS Clerkship Movement?
It seems though like you can get into the T6 (except Yale/maybe Stanford) on stellar numbers alone. To get into Yale (maybe Stanford), you often need something more than stellar numbers - cool accomplishments beyond high grades, unusual work experience, advanced degrees, etc. And I think the SCOTUS clerk people fall into the "more than stellar numbers" category and can be IDed at the time people apply to law school, though I'm sure they can also fall out of that category if they do badly once they get there. (There are obviously exceptions to all these things, just painting in broad strokes.)Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Mar 28, 2023 9:30 pmSure but being an exceptional undergrad is basically required to get into all of the T6 (or at least all of HYSC, CLS and NYU are admittedly a bit looser on GPA), not just YLS.
