Bar exam fees / prep course and clerking
I know many firms will pay for your bar exam expenses and prep course if you're starting in the fall as an associate. But if you defer a year to clerk, does this expense get covered by the firm or do you need to pay for it on your own? Thank you.

I think firms will cover them if you accept an offer. Clerkships count for bar companies' public interest discounts, which helps a bit.

As a datapoint, I know that Debevoise doesn’t pay up front but will reimburse you after the clerkship for the expense when you return.
