verbal offer

Post by clerky123 » Mon Jun 06, 2022 12:11 pm

Is it normal to get a verbal offer over the phone and then not get the paper offer for a while? Should I follow up on the paperwork or just let it be? Verbal offer was second week of May.

Is this for a clerkship? Then yes. It's probably bad form or whatever but it's very common to just get a phone call conveying an offer with literally zero documentation ever.

Very common. Don't worry about it. If you are really paranoid, send the judge an email thanking them and noting how you are excited to clerk. That'll create some documentation in case something weird happens.

Very common. I got hired in July and didn’t get an offer letter till April, when I asked for one for proof of salary for renting an apartment. I didn’t get official paperwork from HR till quite a bit later than that.

If you need an offer letter for similar purposes I’m sure your judge would be happy to provide one but otherwise it’s nothing to worry about.

Yes, most judges are sloppy with HR formalities. Very normal, getting a quick offer letter would be more the exception. Actually idk if I ever got one.

I never got a formal letter and also was so freaked out but it worked out fine. It’s much more likely you won’t hear from chambers until next summer about HR paperwork.

I never got an offer letter, just basically showed up to work as scheduled and had orientation. Sort of an unnerving feeling, isn't it?
