Timeline Question

Post by Anonymous User » Fri Feb 05, 2021 10:25 am

I am looking to time my clerkship such that I capture a full first year bonus. I'm class of 2022 (current 2L), which means I wouldn't complete my first full year until Jan 2024. If this is my goal, when should I be looking to apply? Generally interested in NY area federal courts.

For anywhere else (including nearby like DNJ, DCT, NDNY, EDPA) I'd say summer 2022 for districts, as that's when much of the hiring for the few early 2024 positions and some of the hiring for fall 2024 positions will happen (with the bulk of hiring for fall 2024 happening in summer 2023). But SDNY/EDNY/CA2 happens unusually early, so I'd get a start on it this summer if you can.
