PD office —> clerkship possible?

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Jan 21, 2020 8:47 pm

has anyone done it? I’ve been at one of the top PD offices for three years now, and I’d really like to clerk. My law school stats aren’t stellar - but wondering if the prestige of a PD office would bump my chances for even a district court clerkship.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Your best shot is to target judges who have public service backgrounds themselves - especially if they have connections to your current organization - and who prefer candidates with work experience. The right work experience can make up for deficits in grades/pedigree, but the difficulty is getting your application pulled from the pile. It may well depend on what "aren't stellar" means. Judges who have exclusively private sector experience may not be clued in to which are the top PD offices (or may not care, since they may well still value the stats which your office clearly didn't worry about).
