Judge as reference for future clerkship

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Dec 10, 2019 7:17 pm

I am currently in a clerkship that is subject to renewal for another year, but I have not yet received any indication as to whether I will be extended - the term ends in 3 months.
I just interviewed with a judge for another clerkship that is set to begin next year. She (judge 2) is interested in talking to my current judge (judge 1). I asked judge 2 if she would hold off on making a call until I notified judge 1.
Here’s the dilemma: I’d like to go to judge 2 next year If I could, but also don’t want to run the risk of jeopardizing a potential extension here with judge 1. The last thing I’d want is to have no clerkship at all 3 months from now. Is there a right way to broach this topic with judge 1?

You just have to talk to the judge about your situation. There's no way around it. Are you on good terms with your current judge?
