Reference from Judge

Post by Anonymous User » Thu Oct 31, 2019 4:13 pm

How soon after starting is it OK to ask your judge to act as a reference for law firm applications? I’ve been in chambers for about three months now.

My gut is that it’s probably long enough, but it feels a little early.

This is probably down to the particular judge. I'd ask a JA/former clerk what the judge has been willing to do in the past, just to get a sense of what's reasonable.

FYI, it's not uncommon for judges to decline to provide act as references as a matter of course.
