Post by Anonymous User » Mon Jan 18, 2016 2:34 pm

Hey all, my stats are:

Lower T14
Top 15-20%
Exec Board on Law Review
2 Year District Court Clerk
Published in practitioner journal
Will have at least one year of Big Law experience

Am I competitive for a COA clerkship anywhere?

From what I saw while clerking, having district court experience was a big boost for getting a COA (particularly in the same district/circuit), so it's certainly worth applying.

Probably, but I would recommend you speak with your school's clerkship office. They will be able to help you target particular judges. Applying broadly probably also makes sense.

Just to give you a data point:

Similar stats, but applied to do CoA immediately following a 1 year district court clerkship. My personal circumstances limited me only to the 9th Circuit which I felt was a long shot. Did not hear anything back from my applications.

If your judge will make calls for you I'd say you have a shot at getting interviews.

wondering about this - if you intend to try for a CoA after a DC clerkship, do you apply during 3L (presumably after DC is secured), before you've actually started your DC clerkship?

Definitely possible. Similar stats, will be clerking on 2/9/DC after one-year district court clerkship.
