Rejection Format?

Post by Anonymous User » Thu Nov 19, 2015 3:01 pm

I interviewed over five weeks ago for a clerkship. I haven't heard anything since. I know this likely means I am getting rejected. What format do the rejections come? E-mail? Phone call? Is it worth calling chambers to see if they will just tell me over the phone? The glimmer of hope that I might still get it is more annoying than anything else at this point...

I've gotten letters in the mail. But don't give up hope - I got an offer several weeks after interviewing (and by that point, I'd assumed I wasn't getting it).

thanks. did the judge call your recommenders? i was also debating whether to call chambers to figure out the status and have ultimately decided not to.

I've gotten 3 rejections and 1 offer. Each of the rejections came in different formats. 1 via mail, 1 via email, and 1 via phone call (this was a terrible idea on their part). Offer obviously came via phone call. I know that one of the judges that rejected me contacted 2 of my references, but wasn't informed by those same references that the judge that gave me the offer contacted them.

In sum, every judge is different. Good luck and don't give up hope!!

Out of curiosity, why was the call a terrible idea? Was it just an awkward conversation? I received a rejection via phone call, and, while it sucked as much as any other rejection, calling seemed really thoughtful. I guess I can see the potential for it to go downhill though

No joke: got my offer on a Friday night via e-mail (with by far the best & most competitive Judge I interviewed with). Complete with "Sent from my iPad". It was pretty great.

I've never gotten a phone call rejection for a clerkship, but some of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me were during phone rejections for other jobs.

I mean I get why they did it, but I mean it was pretty awkward...I mean what are you suppose to say during that conversation
