Any advice on the following?
I'm currently clerking for a federal Magistrate Judge in a fly-over district. I lined up another one-year MJ clerkship for 2015 in a competitive district where I'll practice (e.g. NDCA/CDCA/NDIL/DDC). I graduated around top 15% at MVBP.
I'd like to clerk for a DJ and believe I have the credentials (grades, good recs, prior clerkships, and good pre-law school work experience). I've simply lacked the needed "ins," as my law school is far from (and has few ties) to the pertinent district.
Do I try for 2016, or should I wait a few years? Ideally, I leave clerking to go to a firm, though I don't have an offer awaiting me (trying to use the clerkships to transition from prior PI plans).
Thanks.
