Best clerkship interview questions

Post by Anonymous User » Mon Nov 03, 2014 1:57 pm

We are shifting gears in our chambers - getting away from "let's discuss your resume" or "why do you want to clerk for this court" type questions and moving towards behavioral questions that, we hope, will tells us about a candidate and her/his motivations.

I am hoping folks can share particularly good questions they have asked, or have been asked, during clerkship interviews (or other relevant interviews). Anyone have anything that stands out?

name a time that you disagreed with a superior, how you addressed your disagreement, and whether you were able to follow your superior's contrary position. seems pretty pertinent to clerking imo.

That's a good one, and I agree quite relevant. Thank you.

Anyone else have any that come to mind?

other ones i've gotten:

how would you rank your strengths in the following three areas and why: research, writing, and editing?

what aspect of your duties as a law clerk do you think would be the most challenging and why? most rewarding?

(for chambers with externs) have you ever been in a position where you had to supervise people? how would your subordinates describe you? describe a situation where you asked a subordinate to do something and you found their work inadequate. how did you address the situation?
