Anyone,
I got a summer clerkship with a state trial judge. I am beside myself in trying to understand where such a summer gig ranks on the scale of 1L summer possibilities. I know that it is not as high as federal courts or state appellate courts, but 1Ls are never appointed to my state's supreme court. How does it compare with an externship with another government agency or a paid externship with a private firm? Please keep in mind that I am only a 1L. Thanks.
About the court: The court's jurisdiction covers 300,000 residents with millions of yearly tourists (beach). There are 12 circuit judges (higher) and 5 county judges (lower).

Everything I have heard is that what you do your 1L summer won't really matter as long as it's legal.

Does not matter at all.
You should know what your future is like based on your school and 1L grades.
