Judge Silver (D. Ariz.) has an unexpected opening for a clerk starting soon or next few months. Chambers does not seem to be a in good state, so buyer beware. Long-time career clerk left.

What do folks know about Judge Lin in San Francisco? She is new so I haven't been able to find anything yet about her as a boss.

Heard from an alumni friend who got a Bade interview for the 25-26 term. Seems like she's moving.

Heard through the grapevine she is prioritizing people who have COA experience. No red flags on the boss side.

Berzon and Koh haven't made any Oscar postings for 2026-2027. I know they already hired for 2025-2026 last year (summer 2023) but did they already fill up through 2027??

I can also confirm that Bennett has (since March) begun interviewing and hiring for the 2026-2027 term.

Lanham went filled today. I got an exploratory email from Humetewa early this week suggesting she's starting to move, but no follow-up from her end.

Anyone know if R. Nelson tends to reach out when rejecting after a screener? I.e., is not hearing any updates a soft reject, or can that mean you are still under consideration, even if for a future year?

2013 HYS grad and current district court clerk. Going to a firm after finishing the clerkship this summer. Potentially interested in clerking on the 9th in 2016-17 (to make sure I do my one full year for resume/bonus purposes). When should I start sending applications out if I decide to go this route?
Just send apps as they open, preferably the day they open. You won’t really have to worry about starting before mid 2025 unless it’s a the rare immediate opening, which of course you would not apply to.

Saw that Holly Thomas posted for 2025 - is it true she fired a clerk last year? Does that mean that clerking for her is a bad experience?

Also, any news on what the other recent appointees are like?

I went to school with the person she fired, it definitely happened. No one really knows why though and the person ended up at a top boutique after, so it doesn't seem like it ended on bad enough terms to be a red flag to the firm

If a firm was willing to take the person, is that more of a reflection on the judge being unreasonable?

FWIW, I’ve heard that Judge Thomas has rehired this person for a future term. So not sure exactly what happened, but it evidently wasn’t bad enough to prevent them from being able to work with each other again.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
