Thanks for posting. I'm in roughly the same boat at Y/S.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Jun 19, 2020 3:32 pmHYS here, middle-of-the-pack grades (I'd guess 65th percentile), secondary journal leadership, very good softs/work experience & strong recs. Applied to a few dozen D.Ct./COA -- nothing unusually competitive, but mostly coastal -- and heard nothing this week. In case anyone finds this helpful.

c/o 2020 at CCN, top %15 grades, editor on a secondary journal, and total radio silence from district courts up and down the east coast this week, in case anyone wants a (very disappointing!) point of comparison

current clerk in a big "secondary" east coast district (think DMass/EDPA/DNJ). we finished hiring mid-week. all I can say is the plan creates an absolute frenzy and I'm so glad I was hired before the plan. with the amazing caliber of people we were fighting over, I can only imagine there'll be a second wave of offers once the dust settles.

Can you explain more about this?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Jun 19, 2020 1:31 pmShe has hired at least one person for 2021.
Also, as an aside, and without continuing the argument about what level of abuse is acceptable from a judge, I once had a conversation with a Fifth Circuit insider who told me their "number one" piece of advice for students is "never work for Edith Jones."

Re: 2021-2022 Clerkship Application Thread
Seconding this...my judge hated the Plan when it first existed and hated the frenzy of this week last year when I was clerking. He much preferred it when applications trickled in over the course of the year and he could interview on his own schedule. There has to be a middle ground between this and the "plan interregnum" where too many judges were hiring on a single semester of grades.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Jun 19, 2020 4:18 pmcurrent clerk in a big "secondary" east coast district (think DMass/EDPA/DNJ). we finished hiring mid-week. all I can say is the plan creates an absolute frenzy and I'm so glad I was hired before the plan. with the amazing caliber of people we were fighting over, I can only imagine there'll be a second wave of offers once the dust settles.
We talked about the potential for some kind of bid system similar to what most schools use for OCIs, where applicants and judges could prioritize each other. Not sure if the judiciary would ever be centralized enough to pull that off though.

HYS with LR and slightly above average grades. Have heard nothing from COA. I primarily applied to COA judges because my goal is to do appellate litigation. Oh well, I guess.

Millet (DC) is filled for 22. Found out through an email from her chambers, which I assume she sent to all rejected applicants?

Lower T13 with est top 25-30% grades, secondary leadership + published note, additional strong softs. Applied mainly to district courts. Haven't received a single interview. Disappointed but not surprised, sharing mainly for general information.

can I just say how depressing this all is? I don't go to a t14 or even a t30. Top 10% of class, strong softs, but nothing else. I feel very relegated to striking out for the rest of my career

For what it's worth, top ~10% CCN + LR board/published. I only applied to competitive areas. I have one 9th Cir interview next week but otherwise haven't heard anything from district courts.

Is your 9th Cir one for 2021 or 2022? I’m wondering if Wardlaw, Nguyen, Thomas, Smith,Schroeder, Paez, Bybee, Bress, Berzon, Lee, Miller, Tallman and Bumatay are done interviewing yet or done extending invites I should say.blahblahblahblah1 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 19, 2020 6:32 pmFor what it's worth, top ~10% CCN + LR board/published.
