David Lat snuck the fact that Mike Davis is the guy advising Trump on nominations this term into an article a few days ago. It doesn't provide a source, and I haven't seen any other reporting on this, but I wouldn't doubt his reporting in this realm.
“President Trump has made very clear that he’s going to build on the most consequential accomplishment of his first term—appointing Justices Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett to the Supreme Court, as well as a near-record number of lower-court judges—by appointing even more bold and fearless judges in his second term,” Mike Davis, founder and president of The Article III Project, said.

Davis and The Article III Project, a conservative legal group that describes itself as bringing “brass knuckles to fight leftist lawfare,” is advising Trump on judicial nominees during his second term. It’s a shift from his first term, when that advisory role was played by the Federalist Society and one of its longtime leaders, Leonard Leo.

Not sure about Hermandorfer or Rice. There are quite a few folks in Skrmetti's orbit, but I just don't think they'd get the pick. Plus, there are still a lot of old timers who have *some sway in TN.

I imagine it'll be either Sarah Campbell or Vaden if someone from TN that isn't an older timer is gonna take it. Skrmetti might trump them, but not sure if he wants the job.
Looks like Hermandorfer was the pick! Hard to imagine a better pick from a conservative perspective. She truly is a rockstar.

You're right. I think I was this anon. I really thought it was going to be Campbell - similar credentials (less SCOTUS clerkships, ha, but one nonetheless. Duke law and judicial experience). Hermandorfer is sharp, but thought of her as similar to Rice to an extent. I had thought Campbell (or potentially Vaden) because of the judicial exp. I also just thought Hermandorfer and Rice were both too young (I think they are in their late 30s or early 40s?) and Campbell and Vaden, while young, are in their 40s. I'm a bit surprised that no old timer was really in the running.

I would think their relative youth would actually go in their favor. Allows Trump to really cement his influence on the judiciary long term.

Any thoughts on who gets the nod for the 1st Circuit seat in Maine or the NJ and DE seats for the Third Circuit?

The DE seat will likely be moved, FYI

As I think others have mentioned, the far and away most obvious pick in Maine would be Patrick Strawbridge, one of the top partners at Consovoy McCarthy.

Any bets on Sykes’s seat? I’d guess Justice Bradley from Wisconsin.

Does anyone have any insights into how the new Trump COA nominees would be as bosses? Dunlap in particular is interesting, as is Tung. Hermandorfer too, though I've heard good things about her already. And I know Josh Divine in Missouri is supposed to be the real deal

Mascott for a Delaware slot on CA3—it seems Trump is disregarding state connections for some appellate seats in states with two Democratic senators, which will make his nominees much more difficult to predict. Neither Mascott nor Bove are really connected to the states they were nominated for.
