Perhaps depends on the office. I was explicitly told by a JB recruiter that the window closed for them on January 1.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 6:47 pmI don't think this is true, because our chambers received a recruiting letter for events that start at the end of this month.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Jan 03, 2023 5:06 pmYeah, they are done accepting applications.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Dec 15, 2022 5:28 pmAnonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Dec 14, 2022 4:55 pmI don’t even see the post-clerkship posting. They had post-clerkship postings open for applications when I looked last month, but now it looks like they've taken them down?

What’s the timeline for September 2023 hiring? Has it started already?

Varies by firm but it’s definitely started, if you mean jobs starting in September 2023.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 10:00 pmWhat’s the timeline for September 2023 hiring? Has it started already?

Re: 2022-2023 Post-Clerkship Hiring
Hi everyone,
I've applied to a number of places and still haven't heard. I know it's not necessarily a good or bad sign, but I was wondering for those who have heard back (whether its an interview or rejection), can you say how you applied? You cold emailed the firm's legal recruiter? You had a connection at the firm pass on your materials for you? Or you applied on the firm's online clerkship application? I'm trying to get a sense of how I should be sending out my next bunch of applications.
Also, have people been applying for the market they're currently clerking in? I'm trying to enter a different market and it's been pretty tough getting connected with folks. For some context, clerking with a district court judge and was formerly clerking with the state's high court. Went to a regional school outside the market I'm targeting. Good grades with a lot of awards and publications. First gen lawyer and diverse candidate. Looking at working in Los Angeles, fwiw.
Would love to hear people's feedback or thoughts.

All of the above, really! Sorry I don’t have a better answer. Every firm is different.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 7:50 pmHi everyone,

Re: 2022-2023 Post-Clerkship Hiring
As another data point, I've applied through all three means you mentioned and so far the only interview invite I've received is from a firm where I cold-emailed the recruiter. I would be very surprised if at least one of the firms where I had someone (a trusted mentor) pass on my materials did not give me an interview invite. The process is still early for a lot of firms and a lot of markets.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 7:50 pmHi everyone,

As to how to apply generally, it is a little late to start cold emailing associates/partners and try to network your way to an interview. But if you have someone you know at a firm, having them pass along your resume is almost always going to be better than cold emailing the recruiter or sending in an online application. If you're trying to decide between the firm's online application and emailing the recruiting contact, I would just do whatever the website says to do. So if it has a functional online application that is designated for post-clerk hiring, apply there. Otherwise, send an email to the recruiter.

I have been applying through clerkship portals or sending directly cold to the recruiter. I've gotten responses from both.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 7:50 pmHi everyone,

Is there a hard rule against reapplying to a firm after receiving a pre-interview ding? Since I clerked on the district court, I’ve received an offer to clerk on the COA. I’m thinking of reapplying to a couple firms that I received rejections from when I applied while I was a D. Ct. Clerk.

How long did you have to wait until you heard back from a firm when you first applied?

Anyone have any data points on what the market rate is at this point in time for clerkship bonus for SSC or District Court? And also, anyone have any numbers in the way of relocation bonus? Not sure what’s reasonable to propose/suggest.

On my end, approx 2-3 weeks so far. But I have another tranche of apps going out tomorrow morning. The rejections come sooner - sometimes within 24 hours but usually within a week or two.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 5:43 pmHow long did you have to wait until you heard back from a firm when you first applied?
