Re: 2022-2023 Clerkship Application Thread
Biden will nominate his first batch and the list has been leaked to the Washington Post.
DC Circuit: Ketanji Brown Jackson (DDC, duh)
Federal Circuit: Tiffany Cunningham (Perkins Coie partner)
7th Circuit: Candace Jackson-Akiwumi (former NDIL PD, the surprise pick of the bunch)
D Colo: Regina Rodriguez (WilmerHale partner, former Obama nominee)
DDC: Florence Pan (DC Superior Court, former Obama nominee)
D Md: Deborah Boardman (federal magistrate, former PD), Lydia Griggsby (Court of Federal Claims)
D NJ: Julien Neals (former Obama nominee, county attorney), Zahid Quraishi (fed magistrate)
D NM: Margaret Strickland (criminal defense lawyer)
Four of the ten have backgrounds as blue-collar criminal defense attorneys, a departure from Obama. And all circuit nominees are Black women, which was obviously intentional for the first batch. There should be another with the CA1 and CA2 seats coming soon I imagine. The other DDC candidate mentioned above is for the other DDC seat so she's probably still in the works.

Anyone know what's the deal with the Barron (CA1) app on OSCAR? It lists "other transcript" (alongside "law" and "undergrad") as a required document but there's no mention of a need for an additional document or what would go in that slot. Should I just upload a blank pdf?

Just checking in, second cycle for me and not super hopeful. Top third at a T20, targeting flyover D Cts primarily

Similarly, for Saylor, no writing sample is required? Is this an error?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sat Apr 17, 2021 7:06 pmAnyone know what's the deal with the Barron (CA1) app on OSCAR? Has anyone heard from the Seventh Circuit judges? A few postings went up recently, but Sykes and St. Eve, at least, have had their posts up for a while now.

Anyone know if he's still looking?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 9:53 amHe definitely was looking for clerks for that term at least as of December, not sure if he’s full. But I do know he pretty much requires a prior clerkship, and if you apply without one, his JA will put in the confirmation email to let them know if you get one.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 9:28 amHeard through the grapevine that Justice Cuellar on Cal Supreme is looking for a 2022-2023 clerk. We know if this spot has been filled?

Recent grad. Stats would have me competitive for most all non-feeder judges. Applied to a non-Chicago judge about a month ago. Radio silence.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon May 10, 2021 6:23 pmHas anyone heard from the Seventh Circuit judges? Applying from CLS on-plan and I just found out I scraped my way to Kent Scholar for 2L, so I'm a double Kent. I was wondering if judges outside the 2nd Circuit know what Kent means or if getting Kent the non-traditional way twice would impact my applications. I'm applying pretty broadly outside the 2nd Circuit too.

Is Pitman (W.D. Tex.) still available for 22-23? His OSCAR post says available, but it's from June 2020.

Many will probably know, and for the others, it’s easily GoogleableAnonymous User wrote: ↑Wed May 26, 2021 8:29 amApplying from CLS on-plan and I just found out I scraped my way to Kent Scholar for 2L, so I'm a double Kent. Re: 2022-2023 Clerkship Application Thread
They will likely have some idea, but I doubt they will know what percentile in the class Kent approximates. I ran into this problem while I was applying at CLS. The judges knew my grades were good but didn't know exactly where I fell percentile-wise. As for getting Kent the non-traditional way, I doubt judges would really notice. Normally people who get Kent the non-traditional way have nearly a 3.8 anyway.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 12:50 amMany will probably know, and for the others, it’s easily GoogleableAnonymous User wrote: ↑Wed May 26, 2021 8:29 amApplying from CLS on-plan and I just found out I scraped my way to Kent Scholar for 2L, so I'm a double Kent. Does anyone know if Judge Costa is hiring? He hasn't posted on Oscar.

Costa is reputed to be pretty strict about hiring only one year out and only hiring law students, like Jerry Smith, so I'd be surprised if he isn't, though I have no inside infoAnonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Jun 08, 2021 9:29 amDoes anyone know if Judge Costa is hiring? He hasn't posted on Oscar.
