Thanks all for the advice, and thanks to the mod for regulating the thread.
To be clear, the statements made by the clerk are not “hot topic” political opinions. They are statements that would be widely condemned across the political spectrum if made by a public figure.
I will continue asking around for thoughts. This judge has been around for awhile (so, the giveaway is that this is not a so-called “Trump judge”), and I intend to speak with their former clerks to gauge whether this is a surprising development from their perspective.
Having given it more thought, I don’t think withdrawing is the correct response. But I do intend to raise my concerns with the judge at some point, if only to confirm that they are aware of the clerk’s statements.

Taking the temperature of former clerks seems like a wise move to the extent you think you can trust them not to raise your name to the judge before you’re ready. If they still have a relationship with the judge, there’s a chance they might be willing to broach the subject with him/her and leave you out of it
