I would ask to speak with the judge if I were you, and ask to talk about the misunderstanding and thoroughly apologize.

This just seems wrong. If OP was abused, OP should not have to apologize and subject himself to that again. It's OP's choice to make. But it's just wrong that a person could force someone to put up with this because of their status.

I'm not saying it's right. It's not; no one should get beaten on the job. But the reality is that judges get hundreds (and in some districts, thousands) of applications, many of whom are from qualified candidates, and the fact that no clerk but him has made a statement about it so far makes it his word against the judge's. I'm only letting OP know what choices he has if he wants this to blow over; either he somehow wins the judge over and convinces her not to fire him, or he quits and lets enough time pass so that no one in the future asks why he quit.

What if OP uncovers the video of the judge beating him with the Black Law Dictionary? Should he go straight to his judge with it, explaining that he'll go public unless the judge agrees to take him back on his terms? Or should be save it to play for future judges who might be inclined to disbelieve OP because no one else has come forward with similar stories?

I don't think any type of EEOC complaint or anything else is going to give you the reset on reapplying that you seek especially, as others have pointed out, having to submit subsequent judicial employment forms that would require disclosing the prior clerkship in other districts. If the experience was that traumatizing, I don't see why you would want to chance having another clerkship where you could get another variation of a bad apple. If I was in your position, I'd be second-guessing myself throughout the interview process wondering if the judge was acting on their best behavior and would be a complete 180 once I got there.

Still surprised that people are taking this seriously... Remember that time OP alleged that OP was hit with Black's Law Dictionary? (Italics are for emphasis, not grammar.) And then asked if there were cameras in chambers, as if OP wouldn't have seen them while clerking there?
