Nice. How many SDNY/Del. interviews did you get?Anonymous User wrote:Anonymous User wrote:It was a breeze for one of my friends to find a job with a good firm's bankruptcy section. Anon with the original question. Somewhere between top 1/3 and median at a top 40 law school. Lot's of bankruptcy experience--summered with a midsize firm's bankruptcy group, multiple internships with bk judges, numerous bankruptcy classes.
I struck out at OCI and am afraid that the clerkship will not be enough bump this time around.

Two. Both at the same time. Funny thing is that a few months before I had interviewed for 2 bankruptcy judges in districts that I would have hated working in (i.e. almost all consumer docket). Luckily they both rejected me.

For any body still looking Judge Silverstein (Bankr. Del.) is accepting applications for a September 2015 start date. Good luck!

Sorry to necro this thread and anonymous because deals with future employment.
Have an offer at a NYC v-100 firm for the fall. Want to do bankruptcy but they can't guarantee it. Thinking of applying for clerkships for the 2016-2017 term. Wanted to get anyones opinions on what my competitiveness would be post-clerkship? My starts are t-14 top 40% with one horrible semester. Do firms give the 50k bonus to bankruptcy clerks as well?
Thanks in advance.

Re: SDNY/DE Bankruptcy Clerkships
Yo--I graduated from a T30 ranked highly but had a pretty medianish first year. I struck out at 2L OCI and 3LOLCI. But I killed my BK and UCC classes and had a strong upward trend in grades so I was a fairly attractive candidate for BK clerkships. Ended up clerking in SDNY/DE and got an offer from Weil/Kirkland plus another V10 in my desired market. I probably wasn't competitive for V100 coming out of law school (I had a strong overall body of work but my 1L year was not as strong and if you screw up your first year at a T30 is it an uphill battle). So considering that your were T14 and competitive for V100 without the clerkship, I would assume that if you can get an SDNY/DE clerkship and hustle you would be able to snag a pretty good gig post-clerkship.Anonymous User wrote:Sorry to necro this thread and anonymous because deals with future employment.

You should be more worried about how competitive you are for an SDNY/DE BK clerkship in the first place. There really aren't very many of these positions and hiring is somewhat idiosyncratic. They are very tough to get--you could be passed over for someone that appears to be less qualified on paper but has some other advantage out of your control or just clicks better with the judge. Those of us who get these clerkships (in my experience) generally feel like there was some element of luck involved. Just make sure that your application packet is on point and cross your fingers. Also work any connections you can think of with the judges--people think that you can't network your way into a clerkship but that is absolutely not true.
