Re: 2015-2016 Clerkship Application Thread
Carney updated OSCAR today:
"I have completed my hiring for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 Terms. As of this writing, I have four openings for 2015-16. Alumni applicants may apply at any time. Rising 3L's should submit their materials by June 28, 2013, the date applications are released under the Hiring Plan. I intend to turn to hiring for 2015-16 soon thereafter."

Re: 2015-2016 Clerkship Application Thread
I am pretty sure that that exact message has been up since June. She just keeps "updating" without really changing anything, presumably to keep the clerkship at the top of the pile so that people still send applications, but it's possible that there aren't actually four openings anymore.Anonymous User wrote:Carney updated OSCAR today:

Re: 2015-2016 Clerkship Application Thread
Yikes.
I had assumed that I would be OK if I applied in NY (as an alum) in December or January. Maybe that's too late.

That is crazy how quickly SDNY Is filing up. I'm new to this whole process and wondering how you compile a list like that to figure out how many DJs there are in an district and then how many of them have already hired from 2015. Does OSCAR neatly give this to you? I don't see where there I could find this.

Re: 2015-2016 Clerkship Application Thread
I have not signed up for OSCAR yet.
Just quickly skimming the page, it requires that I put down my class rank.
I am at a T20, top 40%. I am going to push myself this fall semester, and see if I can make it into the top 20%.
If I put down my class rank now, and do well this fall semester, can I update my profile on OSCAR?
Thank you.

Yes you can update OSCAR with new documents and profile information at any time. Just make sure you do so before you have finalized applications to judges.Anonymous User wrote:I have not signed up for OSCAR yet.

No. I don't think he even had a posting on Oscar prior to this. Basically it says now not to send unsolicited applications.Anonymous User wrote:Has Oscar opened for 2Ls yet?Anonymous User wrote:Silberman on the DC Circuit is done for 2015 per Oscar.

Castel has hired at least one for 15-16. Don't know if he's done.

Just curious how reliable this is--first-hand? Kozinski had two spots for 2015 as recently as a week ago.Anonymous User wrote:COA 9th

95% sure about Kozinski. He just hired one more this past Thursday, and the person that he most recently hired said he was done. He was just waiting to fill the last spot. (But, they could have been mistaken. Things happen.)
Gould is hiring/interviewing now. Also first-hand knowledge

Maybe I'm showing my ignorance here, but are the judges that are full for 15-16 only hiring alums, or are 2Ls sending in apps with no grades?

Re: 2015-2016 Clerkship Application Thread
For Kozinski and some other feeders, the absolute top of T14 1L classes often get funneled into the pipeline by connected faculty. A few others, like Gould, similarly ask professors to recommend some of the best and brightest rising 2Ls - I think Gould relies heavily on a top Michigan prof to fill his spots.Mad Hatter wrote:Maybe I'm showing my ignorance here, but are the judges that are full for 15-16 only hiring alums, or are 2Ls sending in apps with no grades?
Beyond that, there are 3Ls like me who are looking for a second clerkship (or maybe who missed the boat first time around), alums, etc. But your run of the mill top-10% 2L at a T14 likely isn't going to be in the running for these ultra-early judges.
