Anonymous user above -- I too have submitted applications, both via e-mail and portal, and have heard virtually nothing save for a few confirmations of receipt. I suspect it's just a late-hiring year, although that may be cavalier of me to assume.
I believe I’m the Anon you’re replying to. I have friends who have interviewed with and have offers from firms in NY. Much more variance in firms’ approaches this cycle.
Sigh. Any word on NYC V20s / top lit. boutiques?

I'm wondering this too. On paper I'm qualified for the top boutiques but sent some applications in December/January and I have only heard from a few.

Exact same circumstances here (though I have imposter syndrome and constantly fail to recognize myself as 'qualified,' I suppose on paper I check most of the boxes, mostly since I've had a district and appellate clerkship). I started applying about two weeks ago and have heard almost nothing.

I got an interview for a top boutique.

I don't want to out myself by naming the boutique.

All I'll say is that it's the only interview that I've gotten so far. (I mass mailed in early December.)

Speaking of mass mailing - did I miss any major lit boutiques in NY?

Susman
Molo
Morvillo
Lankler Siffert
Kaplan Hecker

Not that I know much about either firm, but Selendy & Gay and Holwell Shuster both come to mind.

For folks who have gotten interviews thus far, what’s been the turnaround time from application to contact from the firm? Just would like to ballpark for my own sanity...

10 days for one. Almost 8 weeks for 2 others. All came in the past week. My sense is that biglaw firms in CA are only just beginning to look beyond OCI, but I'm sure every firm is slightly different.

It definitely varies. I've seen everything from a day or two to weeks.

Similar question: for those who have done interviews, especially for smaller firms, how long has it taken for you to hear back about offers?

Any movement at the Houston and Dallas boutique lit firms? Curious as to Beck Redden, Lynn Pinker, AZA, Yetter Coleman, SKV, Reynolds Frizzell, Hicks Thomas, MehaffyWeber, Chamberlain Hdlicka etc. Does anyone know the salary structure/clerkship bonuses for these firms?
I was contacted by a recruiter working with Lynn Pinker. It sounds like they have at least two positions they are trying to fill. The recruiter also mentioned that AZA was looking right now.

I don't have specifics on the clerkship bonuses. A few years ago, AZA was known for beating market salary by 5K. Don't know if that's still the case.

Anyone heard from McKool?

Also, any insight into Lynn Pinker's comp and clerkship bonuses? Harder to track down than other TX boutiques.

re: McKool, a friend in the DC office said they are still working on the summer class. I imagine that will be wrapping up soon and then they will start figuring out what they will do about laterals.

re: Lynn, I'm honestly not sure. I was told they pay market. But when I pressed them on that, my contact didn't even know what the market salary was off the top of their head. They also said that Lynn would probably be matching the market for clerkship bonuses, but, again, it sounded like conjecture more than anything.

Same, it was next day for me. Unclear if they meant they only hire for specific positions or not but they were not exactly encouraging... I applied back in December.

Any word? I am seriously regretting clerking given the mysteries of the job search. My previous firm has told me COVID hit them hard and they’re not hiring anyone right now...

I have recently gotten an offer in NY and am interviewing places in DC, but I'm starting to feel like I'm being ghosted from quite a few places (both on the papers and after interviews). Do smaller firms just take forever?

Have you had many interviews in NY? I’ve only interviewed with 2 NY boutiques and had radio silence from all the others (except susman and molo who dinged me on paper)

Would you be willing to talk about your experiences interviewing at elite litigation boutiques?

My first-round interview was quite long, would have been a callback at a biglaw firm and I was asked mostly behavioral questions -- tell me about a time you disagreed with your supervisor/teammate, tell me about a time you managed a project, tell me about a time you failed, tell me about a time you &c.

My interviews have been much more fit based - mostly asking about things not on my resume and what I’m trying to do with my life. I haven’t gotten anything behavioral. Also they ask about experiences at my previous firms/clerkships

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
