It’s going to be impossible to say which system is better for applicants — Plan applicants have never been off-Plan, and off-Plan applicants are not experiencing the Plan.

Sure. Just generally curious as to how your judge views transfers, especially alumni transfers that started at lo ranked schools but moved up to the top 13-20.
I don't really think my judge has an opinion on it one way or the other, and transfers are looked at as students of their current school. Most of the transfers that I saw tended to be like UC Davis-->Berkeley, or Ohio State-->Chicago, where the student was at a decent school already. I haven't seen anyone who started at like Ave Maria or Summit or something (apologies to the students of those schools). And frankly, if someone were able to transfer from Ave Maria to Cornell or something, I'd at least be very curious.

So I guess my answer is that we all know that transfers from a lower ranked school to a T14 school are usually just people who are very smart and capable, but whose LSAT scores (or some personal circumstance that has now changed) kept them out of the T14 for 1L. We certainly don't penalize anyone for it.

Each has extended at least two interview invites.
Many judges on the DC Circuit have extended multiple offers, and students have been coming in all week. Harris (CA4 in Bethesda) has been doing the same thing.

Do you know if they're handling 2020 only or a mix of 2020 and 2021?
offers have been made for 2021

One of the people who already posted talked about having experience both on- and off-plan, though. It’s not impossible to compare experiences.

One part of the experience I missed is pressure on grades your 1L/2L year, which was one of the primary issues the Plan was meant to address. I didn't consider clerking until my 3L year, so I never felt under the gun of getting good grades as 1L to lock down a clerkship early. I'm curious whether that worked (or just made Class of 2020 stress more about 2L grades).

And I still think the real issue is that many for the Class of 2020 who have never applied off-Plan, the only point of comparison is OCI. It's similar in the sense that hiring happens all at once, and everyone gossips about who's sent out invites/offers. But it's totally different because in OCI, the offers far outnumber the open positions.

I can confirm that just because a chambers is in trial doesn’t mean they aren’t doing interviews during the trial.

Anonymous User wrote:One more thing I'll say about this, having clerked in two feedery-type chambers reviewing apps, and having talked to many other clerks in chambers of all kinds: very few judges like hiring. Many loathe it, and most just want to minimize the time and energy they have to spend doing it. Most ideally want to interview a denominator of candidates as close to the numerator of positions as possible, because it's time-consuming, distracting, and almost no judge wants to be in the position of having to turn people down after they've interviewed them (which is why, of course, often times after a candidate interviews they get radio silence for weeks or months and eventually just assume it ain't happening). Also, judges are risk averse, and don't want to put themselves out there only to get rejected, or asked by a candidate for more time to decide, etc. They want to feel fairly certain that if they want the candidate, the candidate will want them.
This is so true. Interviewing clerkship candidates is a huge drain on chambers resources. Each individual interview takes up almost a full day, and then there's the process of reviewing and discussing applications, screening, taking calls from recommenders, etc. For that reason we really try to interview as few candidates as possible--if we could get 4 clerks out of 4 interviews, that would be ideal. There's been some uncertainty with the new plan over how many of the candidates we're bringing in are going to have offers from other judges (or even the possibility that someone may have to withdraw after scheduling the interview), so we may interview more people than usual this year to protect ourselves from being shut out.
