Speaking of W&C, do we know what other DC firms are currently interviewing clerks (or are done)? Which ones have sent out rejections?
I saw on another thread that a lot of the V10 in NY are but haven't seen anything about DC.

I received a rejection from W&C. If you haven't heard, I'd guess you're still alive.

Do we have reports of any DC firm actually interviewing clerks other than W&C (see above)?

If I may ask, how long passed between interview and rejection? I interviewed there about a week and a half ago and haven't heard anything, but the paperwork they gave me at the interview said that it could take several weeks. I really want to work there, but I'm a poor judge of how well an interview is going. All this waiting is mad nerve-wracking.Anonymous User wrote:I received a rejection from W&C. Also, for those who interviewed at W&C, did they ever ask for references? The online application never asks you to submit them, and they never asked at the interview. My judge seems to have a very positive perception of me, so I wish there was some way I could make it more likely that they contact him.

For anyone who applied to V20 firms in NYC, how long did it take to receive a response one way or the other?

Yes. They will ask for references before they extend an offer.Anonymous User wrote:Also, for those who interviewed at W&C, did they ever ask for references? So how does it work procedurally? They contact you after you've already interviewed and say, "Hey, could you provide us with references?" I've never encountered a situation where a potential employer asks for references after the interview has already occurred. In my experiences, they either ask for references with the initial application, or ask you to bring them to the interview itself. In the case of W&C, I brought then to the interview, but they never asked.Anonymous User wrote:Yes. In any event, I guess the fact that more than two weeks have passed since the interview and I haven't heard anything or been asked for references doesn't bode well.
Finally, to enlighten other readers about my experience with the process, I applied to a bunch of firms in DC. I've had interviews with W&C, Covington, and Sildey. I've received rejections from Gibson Dunn and Kellogg Huber. Otherwise, it has been radio silence. My applications were mainly submitted in late January, with a few in early February. I started hearing around mid-February.

That's what they do.
Did you apply to KH in January? I think that is too late for them, but not for other firms.

Yeah--late January, along with the rest. I was told by an adviser not to submit applications before January; maybe that was bad advice, but when I was clerking last year (I'm a double clerk) I received recruiting mail from Kellogg Huber in, I believe, April, suggesting that they were still interviewing that late.Anonymous User wrote:That's what they do.

May I ask how you know that W&C does that? Do you have any sense of how long after the interview they would normally ask for references?

Is anyone else applying for government positions? I am very skeptical that my usajobs applications will get looked at.

fwiw, interviewed/accepted offer in DC and they asked about contacting references after my interview. I think the HR person just called me and asked about my references/how to contact them.

Re: Post-Clerkship Job hunting (fall 2015 hiring cycle)
W&C rejection arrived today, rather like clockwork. I can't say I'm that surprised, or really disappointed. Before the interview, it was certainly one of my top choices (though not my top choice), but I emerged from the interview process placing it near the bottom. I suppose I now see what people talk about when they talk about "fit."
The attorneys I interviewed with did not seem particularly intellectual or smart--merely very, very aggressive. They seemed caught up in their own "prestige," to the point of having a chip on their shoulders. One associate with whom I interviewed, for instance, made a point of telling me that, whereas Harvard College is "the hardest ivy to get into but the easiest to get out of," his undergrad school--which shall remain nameless--was the "hardest ivy to get out of." I left sensing I didn't want to work surrounded by people still nursing wounds inflicted on them at the age of 17--wounds apparently not remedied by clawing one's way to the top of the class at Michigan Law or clerking on the Sixth Circuit.
So, W&C, while you may have aptly recognized that I just wanted to milk you for a clerkship bonus and salary for a year or two before dashing off to academia, know that I am manifestly smarter and better-qualified than every attorney who met with me.
Peace.

This was not my experience at all - not remotely. I met with five attorneys, all thoughtful, polite and slow to boast about their very impressive credentials. The attorneys I interviewed with did not seem particularly intellectual or smart--merely very, very aggressive.
Then again, I haven't received my rejection letter yet. Perhaps that will change my perspective.

I'm the one who asked about that. Answer is yes, received mine shortly after. It was dated late February but didn't get it until almost two weeks later.Anonymous User wrote:Was it clarified that the W&C rejections are coming via snail mail?
