Griffith must have hired 3Ls right? His OSCAR specifically said that 2Ls need three semesters of grades. Or is it better to question what the judges post on there?

Re: 2015-2016 Clerkship Application Thread
3L looking to apply for '15-'16 term as an alum. A few questions:
1. I had a few fed. interviews this past summer for '14-15' term, and I did not get them. Will I be categorically rejected by these judges for '15-'16 applications--will they even interview me again?
2. I will be starting at a firm fall of '14. I have zero interest in telling them about my clerkship goals (I won't get into why). As an incredibly premature hypothetical (although probably a worthwhile issue for some of folks)--If I were to get a '15-'16 clerkship, and find out about it this summer, do I need to tell my firm right away that I got it? Or can I wait until near the end of my year with the firm, just before starting the clerkship, that I will be leaving to clerk?
Thanks.

You're in the wrong field if you like the idea of planning where you'll be in three years.Doorkeeper wrote:This is not helping my life planning anxiety. haha.hoos89 wrote:I think I've seen some judges who claim to have filled their 2017 term already.Doorkeeper wrote:Fucking 2016 clerkships already? Re: 2015-2016 Clerkship Application Thread
Sorry, I misspoke. These are term 16-17 clerkships. And all of the folk I know were applying for '14-15 clerkships but were offered dual district/circuit clerkships (though not necessarily in that order) that were 15-16 followed by 16-17.hoos89 wrote:2Ls or 3Ls? Just started gathering recs + materials for 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 cycles. Ugh. Feel like I wasted my alumni advantage by applying so late.

Any idea what sort of stats might be competitive for Judge Carnes? Just curious.

Are there any threads with advice on how to streamline logistics for recommenders? Faculty will be fine, since they have assistants, but one of my recommenders is a clinical instructor and I'd like to try to make things as easy for him as possible.
Gracias.

Re: 2015-2016 Clerkship Application Thread
Carnes has sent two clerks to SCOTUS, both to Justice Thomas. One was from UVA, the other from Georgia. Whether it was Carnes that was the in with Justice Thomas or a prof at UVA/Georgia is impossible to know without asking those clerks. Georgia has sent another student to Thomas; he clerked with Sentelle before going to Thomas. UVA has a number of conservative profs with ties to Justice Thomas. Likely it's a combination of both profs and Carnes.Anonymous User wrote:Only Carnes clerk I knew was at the top of his/her class at a T14. But I know he takes students from regional schools too. I know a guy who was 3rd in his class at a regional school (non UGA) that went to Carnes. The rest of his credentials were stellar: high position on journal, MC accolades, published note and other publication, etc.

(I don't doubt you at all. It makes sense. I know at least two profs at UVA clerked for Thomas and maintain a close relationship with him. Wasn't sure about UGA, but I figured there must be some connection for two students to make their way in.)
