Also, does anyone know what is the earliest that classes start at the law school? The sample schedule shows all classes starting no earlier than 09:45, but it also has an entire slot for 08:30 classes.

Half of the 1L class had 8:30 contracts in the winter. Totally bearable because it is Baird though. I imagine he will take 8:30 next year too, he is apparently the only faculty willing to.

The neighborhood is not nearly as sketch as that makes it sound - I feel safe walking pretty much anywhere north of 60th, east of Ellis, and south of 50th at any time day or night. Did have a homeless dude wander into my old apartment once, though.

Yeah, I got them at my undergrad too, which was in a kind-of-big city as well. It was just coincidental to always hear about how dangerous Chicago is, and then to get my first UChicago email and have it be "two people were shot dead near where you'll be receiving your legal education."

I saw some article from online the other day about the most dangerous neighborhoods in America, and they did it by intersection (I guess as the epicenter of problems). Number 25 was about 10 or 12 blocks from the law school.

Presumably to the south or west. There are relatively defined borders at 63rd and at Cottage grove. It can be kind of shocking how segregated this city is.

Keep in mind that the UCPD is something like the US's second biggest private police force, and their patrol area is: http://www.uchicago.edu/community/safet ... icts/ucpd/. They actually go a fair bit further north/south than they used to. I think it was only to 47th/61st when I started UG.
