They haven't announced anything to University staff. I'm guessing it'll get sorted mid-summer.
I've been a bit doom-and-gloom about that whole thing, but I wouldn't worry about it too much. Too many people live in east hyde park for them not to offer some kind of bus/shuttle. Knowing the University, it may not be especially reliable transportation, but it will exist. Just don't worry that you'll be stuck with a half-hour walk through the snow in winter or anything.

Hey! I am trying to get in touch with the financial aid office. I've called Kevin and left a message and sent an e-mail. It's been about a day or so, any idea how else I can get them to respond to me? ha
Also, super excited to be with you all next year

The fine print of the application reads as though it binds the applicant to sign a lease if approved. I was under the impression that you could fill out the application as a preliminary step and continue searching. I don't really wanna commit until my SO can visit this summer to check it out.
I guess, just walk me through how this process works.

Yikes! Good thing I never read the fine print. Ignorance is bliss

Hope your mock class was with Levemore (SP?)
Anyways, I haven't heard a peep from them yet. I just signed it and paid the fee and they said they'll get back to me in May or June with apartment availability. Might want to call them and ask...

Yeah, I wrote back and explained my concern and she said I was correct, it was binding. I'm going to hopefully go up there and visit again sooner rather than later. I'll be studio'ing next year (the whole SO thing), and she said there was no waitlist for those so we shall see.
Edit: Also, was your fee $50? Because that's what I was under the impression it was, but the form and her communication stated $50 plus a $300 non-refundable administrative fee.

No the fee is like $400 IIRC. But there's no security deposit.
ETA: Ya just checked my CC, $400. I asked for 1BR though, dnk if that makes a difference.

Regents charged me a $300 fee (although I do think the application says $400... not sure what's up with the discrepancy). It's binding in the sense that if you don't sign a contract you lose that fee:
If we approve this Application, and you fail or refuse to execute and deliver the Lease to RP Hyde Park, LLC, the Administrative Fee shall be retained by RP Hyde Park, LLC as liquidated damages and there shall be no further liability on the part of either party with respect to the application, nor proposed Lease agreement.

Holy shit that is an exorbitant fee. Anybody know how late we can apply to have a reasonable shot at a 2BR?

They apparently don't create contracts more than 60 days in advance of move in date, so if you apply around that time I'd bet you'll be golden. Earlier in this thread a current student said that it's not super hard to get an apartment.

I do plan on moving a little earlier (mid-August) so I can get into a routine before LS and do some other stuff. I applied early to have a better chance at one of the cheaper 1BR's (unrenovated, lower floor).

I think I'm gonna move in during July... Elterrible found this awesome apartment (that he's not taking) and I want to get it before someone else does. I'll probably move in during July and spend around a month there then visit a few friends in Colorado before school starts.

I want to move like now but I'm gonna stay working for the summer. But the nice part is, it sounds like the whole damn month of September will just be orientation. Sounds like a damn good time to hang out in the city and get settled.

Just curious, are you talking about an APT in regents that you like? I thought you said you paid the Regents fee, or are you going elsewhere?

Anybody hear anything from Chicago now that the deposit deadline passed? What's the protocol on sending final transcripts? I haven't heard anything since I submitted my deposit in February, and was curious/excited.

Don't worry about getting an apartment in Regents if you aren't picky, the building is huge.
Also Lol at the idea that they can bind you to sign a lease and even if my 2/3 knowledge of 1L contracts is mistaken double lol at the idea that they would pursue you for damages.

I'll be up at Regents starting July 1st as well. It's good to hear that some of you others will also be moving into the area early.
To you current Regents dwellers, how much do utilities cost per month throughout the year? I know central heating is capped at $70, but does it ever get that high? Also, how much does electricity usually cost? Thanks!

Right on! I'll check on those two questions; my wife wrote down the answer to those when we met with one of the leasing agents. Unfortunately, my wife has her hands tied with finishing her last essay for law school before she graduates this Saturday, woot, woot.
