I live in one of the grad student apartment buildings (have for the last 2 years), and I love it! Most of the buildings are much older than Regents, which is more my style anyhow (our unit has hardwood floors, built in bookcases, and a nonfunctional, but very pretty fireplace). We have an unfurnished 1bdrm and it's plenty of space (separate kitchen, dining room, living room, an office area currently being used as a second bedroom for our son, plus a screened in porch and big shared courtyard). ETA: I would not really recommend living in any of the ones below 60th until you're more familiar with the neighborhood. That area is safer than it once was, but is still dicier than the rest of hyde park.

Plus, like Regents, it's just easy. Move in/move out dates have been pretty flexible, the buildings are well managed, and I imagine you could sign a lease w/out having to come out to Chicago.
