Re: Penn Class of 2016
Just got an apartment this past weekend from "Apartments at Penn," a local leasing agency at 416 S. 41st Street. I would recommend giving them a look for your housing when you guys visit. The company has been around for a long time and as a result they have great properties, good prices, and very professional staff.

Scholarship information has yet to be released, correct? A quick look at LSN suggests that Penn is relatively stingy - any reason to think this year could be different?

Awesome find! Thanks for posting it. The site has great prices and a great selection of apartments. There weren't any picture for the rentals but from the google street view most of them seemed to be in decent neighborhoods.Mr. Frodo wrote:Just got an apartment this past weekend from "Apartments at Penn," a local leasing agency at 416 S. 41st Street. Thanks. The neighborhood is great. I live in University City now, and the main areas that Apartments at Penn rents in are family/post-doctoral/graduate Penn students only. Lots of trees and only a 5 minute bikeride to the lawl school building.Nickg415 wrote:Awesome find! Thanks for posting it. The site has great prices and a great selection of apartments. Who's going to ASW? I'll be there from the 22nd to the 25th (staying two extra days) so let me know if any of you want to explore Philly/check out apartments!

Re: Penn Class of 2016
Since the general public's Penn/Penn State confusion seems to be something of a running joke on TLS, I have to pass along this encounter with an educated, worldly, and generally on the ball acquaintance over the weekend.
I tell her I'm deciding between School X (which is geographically very close to my current location) and Penn.
"Oh, Penn State!," is her reply.
"Well, no. It's actually the University of Pennsylvania," I say.
Her disappointment is apparent.
Since my assumption is that she was hoping for football tickets or grilled stickies, what are my Penn options? Anybody tailgate before games at Franklin Field? Where's the Penn breakfast spot to cure the next-day hangover?

Re: Penn Class of 2016
Congrats new admits!
I think I'm basing my ASW attendance on whether I'm invited to interview for the Toll, as it is the same weekend. Otherwise I might just swing by for a campus visit since I'm only a couple hours away.
Good luck to all my fellow Toll applicants!

It was Philly Diner but that's a vacant lot now. I guess you could try the food trucks?Badges!?! wrote:Since the general public's Penn/Penn State confusion seems to be something of a running joke on TLS, I have to pass along this encounter with an educated, worldly, and generally on the ball acquaintance over the weekend.

Curious about this as well. I'm a long shot, and it's been over a week since I've been admitted, so probably even a longer shot. But still hoping. As I do more and more research, Penn is slowly solidifying its position on the top spot of my list. Just need some money...az21833 wrote:checking in admitted today!!! for those who got levy/wilson invite, was it an e-mail and how long did it take to come?

Personally, I can't wait to catch some hoops at the Palestra. My guess is that the breakfast spot is Pat's or possibly Geno's.Badges!?! wrote: Since my assumption is that she was hoping for football tickets or grilled stickies, what are my Penn options? The Palestra is definitely on my bucket list of arenas. Kind of cool to think that my first game to watch there could be as a student. Just wish Dunphy hadn't made the trip across town. I like the way his teams play, and Penn hasn't been the same since he left.
Guess I'll have to withdraw and enroll at Temple. Employment outcomes can't be that much different, right?

Congrats, AZ! I know you were really hoping for that. Damn that's tight turnaround though. We had longer for the Toll app but it also had four questions to cover. Anywho, good luck!az21833 wrote:got wilson invite via e-mail! due sunday though jesus thats a tight deadline. it says brief essay - does that mean one page?

All that matters when it comes to securing gainful employment is that you believe in yourself. I think you know the answer here. hoot hoot.

Did any Toll applicants get confirmation that their essays were received? I'm wondering if I should call/email to be sure.

How important is ASW? It's the same weekend as my first race of the spring rowing season and there's probably no way I can skip it. I'm from the area so visiting the city is a non-issue, and I've done a tour already in the fall so I've seen the campus. What am I missing by skipping ASW?

Penn Preview day on April 8 an abridged version of ASW, for people in your situation. Based off of the events at ASW and this fact, I think you'll be fine skipping it.phillygal wrote:How important is ASW?
