Also, I was under the impression (maybe due to my own naiveté) that the Cornell (Ithaca) to NYC bus was free (to students) but it's actually 165 dollars r/t. That's crazy. There goes that as a means of transportation.

I hate that it's so expensive to get upstate from NYC for people visiting. The best I found is 31 dollars one way to Syracuse which is a 1 hour ish drive from Ithaca. The direct bus is like 55 dollars one way to Ithaca.

Hell, you can go to Boston from NYC for 15 bucks =X

You can get the megabus from NYC to Binghamton --which is about an hour south of Ithaca. It would be a much shorter bus trip than to Syracuse (about 3 1/2 hours) and if you get it in advance it can be really cheap (like, under $10.) Yeah, the C2C is luxurious, but it's super expensive.

Hey! Thanks for the inside advice. The best I found for NYC to Bing was $39 (http://us.megabus.com/JourneyResults.as ... thReturn=0) .. Am I doing it wrong ? If you do it a month in advance (the furthest it lets you) it's about $24! I'd love ~15 though!

I think the day of the week is a big factor --in this search, you can travel on a Tuesday for $7 (plus the illustrious $1 ticket!) but Friday travel, as well as Saturday-Monday presumably, it goes back up to $24+.

Getting to Ithaca from Binghamton or Syracuse is a giant pain in the ass unless you have a generous soul willing to drive an hour each way to pick you up. Just suck it up and take the Shortline. I think it's $90 r/t if you're a student. It drops you 200 ft from the law school.

Im really concerned for people who visit (my SO ) who will come by bus i don't mind driving an hour to pick her up though if it saves 40 bucks or whatever

I just got my NetID. You really just accept a few terms and conditions and create a password with a bunch of really annoying stipulations. Then, you get access to a server that seems kinda poorly designed, to be honest. It's not something you need to worry about getting really soon or anything.

Yeah, it's just that I mailed my health forms and now I have nothing left to do.

And apparently you need it if you want to add dental or vision coverage to SHIP.

Is anyone bringing a bike, or are the hills just too ridiculous for casual riding?

From the NE.

Bringing a car for sure. That's because I'll be driving home. The flights to up there are STOOOOPID pricey. If you have to fly home then prolly skip the car. The place to shop is like 1-2 miles away (Wegman's, Walmart, Bed bath and Beyond, Chiptole ^^, Panera, etc etc ) and I think you can carpool / bus there. Also look into Ithaca Carshare if you aren't bringing a car. It's like a zipcar style car rental thingy.

And a bike is something I may consider. The campus has a bunch of bike stations to lock up and it's a nice area to bike in. However, if it snows then fuck that. And some of the hills are retarded from what I saw. Like I was scared to go down them as if it was a roller coaster sort of drop.

While this is true, I think you have to remember the snow / winter situation. Even when it doesn't snow, I hear that it's VERY cold. However, there is carshare, the TCAT bus which we get a free year to, and various shuttles depending on where you live.

I don't expect us to win, but people will continue to make fun of Cornell if we don't have a decent showing. And if we do win, we get this:
