Yeah, this ASW has been super, super fun and pretty convincing. MicDiddy, you're gonna get stomped.ChampagnePapi wrote:LSATSCORES2012 wrote:I seriously feel like submitting my deposit... Meeting so many awesome people, and lots of TLSers, too

Most uncomfortable moment of ASW for me, by far: Approaching a guy who looks *just like* Micdiddy, who I thought LSATSCORES2012 had told me was Regulus, and introducing myself by saying, "You look like a cat I know. When I tell you I'm an oilman, you will agree." This poor bastard, terrified, said, "Uh...cat? My name is Jake" before hurrying away.

ASW was absolutely awesome. Great school, great people. I put faces to a couple tars and I'm sure I met a good bit of you without realizing it. Here's to Hyde Park in the fall!

By the way, I'm still around Chicago for the night. So if anyone is staying in downtown and wants to get drinks or something just shoot me a PM and I'll give you my number.

It was good to meet y'all (though I mean this about admits generally, I have no idea whether anyone I met was a TLS poster).ChampagnePapi wrote:+1. in fact, it won me over. Just submitted the commitment response form, withdrew my other applications, and will be putting in my deposit in the next week or so.
See you all in Hyde Park!

Did anyone catch the name of the donut shop that catered the Saturday morning breakfast? I gotta get me more bacon donuts once I am in Hyde Park

So I was at the ASW too - absolutely loved it. I have a question for all you who were also there. I missed the financial aid session. Did they say anything about negotiating scholarships? If not, what can you tell me about it? What email address to send it to, what information to include, general tips specific to chicago, etc. Thanks!

Thanks! Do I do that even if i've already received a first offer? That may be a stupid question, but just making sure.Regulus wrote:Contact the financial aid email address (financialaid@law.uchicago.edu) and they will send you a link to a site where you can put in offers and they'll consider it all. Kevin mentioned during the session that we will be available to apply to need-based Federal Perkins Loans of an amount up to $6,000 per year. However the UChicago website here says "approximately $4,500 per year", and the Federal Student Aid website says $8,000, so I have no clue what is correct. Basically, you'll need to apply for this on May 1st as soon as the SLA (Student Loan Administration) site opens up because they're assigned on a first-come-first serve basis. The good thing about these is that the interest rate is lower (5% instead of 6.8% or 7.9%), and interest doesn't start accruing until like 9 months after graduation.

I got my Perkins amount completely separately from the initial email offer. It just comes when you submit all your loan info. Just for one data point, I got 5k in Perkins, but I have no idea if that's standard or if you should expect more/less.BSC wrote:Thanks! Do I do that even if i've already received a first offer? Thanks! I just realize all this was on the admitted student's website. I thought I had already looked for it. Whoops. Maybe i'm not worth reconsideration after all haha
