What airport should I fly into JFK or LaGuardia? I am looking to minimize time and price to get to Manhattan and I remember last time I think I flew into LaGuardia and it was a pain.

Re: NYU Law Class of 2016
I flew in to JFK (at the recommendation of some in this thread
), and it was a breeze. This is coming from someone who was terrified he was going to get lost, BTW. I just had to hop on a tram to Jamaica Station, then got on the subway for about 40 minutes, and then I was right across from NYU. I think the total cost of travel was under $10.

Re: NYU Law Class of 2016
unfortunately I think the cheapest flights from denver to NYC are into LGA ($110 vs. $300??? wth) so I may be risking LGA and if worse comes to worst I'll just cab it and still save some money (unless NYC cabs are going for $190 for an airport trip to NYU which seems unlikely)
It looks like Jam posted a solid route that I will probably take full advantage of coming in from LGA so hopefully it works out!
See you all at the end of April!

For those who attended the first ASW - was there somewhere to leave your suitcase during the day Thursday? I can't check in to my hotel til that afternoon so will have it with me all day and am supposed to go to dinner with current students that evening. The whole suitcase issue just occurred to me now. I'd have to skip something in order to have time to go check in. If no one knows about suitcase stashing, I'll try calling admissions...

Yeah they were holding baggage at the coat check (I learned what a coat check was at the ASW).risa wrote:For those who attended the first ASW - was there somewhere to leave your suitcase during the day Thursday? ETA: Or you could just leave it at the hotel even if you can't check in.

Good point. I literally feel so immersed in law school applications, researching schools, and comparing LRAP programs that I've lost all common sense at this point.

Re: NYU Law Class of 2016
So i was just looking over my fin aid package and I have 20,500 in stafford loans and a difference gap of 57,612 (no scholarship). Does this mean I have to take 57,612 out in private loans?
Is this a common thing that a lot of people are getting with the fin aid packages or is my situation just especially bad?

Usually you can take out the difference in Federal Grad Plus loans, though those have a 7.9% interest rate and private loans may be cheaper. If you scroll down to the last page of the financial aid package, you'll see a brief explanation of Grad Plus.bsinoff wrote:So i was just looking over my fin aid package and I have 20,500 in stafford loans and a difference gap of 57,612 (no scholarship). If you fly into LGA, you get a better view of the city.

I've never been to JFK and I never will (except international flights). Also, Unless it's saving me several hundred dollars, I will never fly into Newark.

Re: NYU Law Class of 2016
(Sorry for the very delayed response) I heard that I got the IILJ a few weeks ago; they "told" me by sending me an email notification that my financial aid letter was ready, and when I logged in and looked at the letter there was an option to accept the IILJ scholarship. I got what looks to be just a bit under what tuition will be for 3 years, assuming they keep raising it at the rate they have been, and assuming I work public sector my 2L summer (which is likely).o0o0o0o wrote:Anyone heard back about IILJ post-"interview"?
I'm going to try negotiating a bit, though, since I'm in a good position to do so.
Have you heard anything from finaid or the IILJ people?

Congrats! Do you mind saying if you focused your appeal on need or merit/other scholarship offers?winter.is.coming wrote:In continuation with the appeals...I submitted mine on March 20 and heard back on the 29th.

I also appealed after being offered nothing initially and got a substantial amount afterward. I focused on another scholarship offer but touched very briefly on need.***corgy*** wrote:Congrats! I focused on another merit scholarship offer. They didn't match it, but I was happy nonetheless!***corgy*** wrote:Thanks! Just submitted my appeal and did a little of each. Re: NYU Law Class of 2016
A couple of questions:
1) How likely is it that youll get the housing you want?
2)How does choosing a roommate work?
3) What is the curve?
4) How does the new 3 year program work?
Thanks!

1. Unless you want a studio, you're likely to get the type of housing you want. You may not get the exact room type or whatever (like you may want an F1 in Mercer but get an F2, which is a few floors higher instead), but you'll generally get what you ask for.lawschoolboundfuture wrote:A couple of questions:

2. If you know someone already and want to live with them, you can request them. I have some friends who met at a happy hour we did in advance of 1L year and they requested and got each other as roommates. Other than that, it's random, though you'll get someone of the same sex (unless you specifically request a specific opposite sex person, which they're fine with as long as you both are).
3.
First year:
A+: 0-2% (target = 1%)
A: 7-13% (target 10%)
A-: 16-24% (target 20%)
B+: 22-30% (target 26%)
B: Remainder
B-: 4-8% (target 6%)
C/D/F: 0-5%
After 1L year, it changes to 4-11% for B- (target 7-8%) and professors are a little more likely to give out C's.
4. I think there's more of an emphasis on studying abroad your 3L year, but other than that I'm not really sure. Jam probably knows more than I do.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
