Haha I thought about editing that to include a "that I didn't already know," but I'm trying to edit my posts less. It's apparently a hallmark of mine.Jaqen wrote:okay.jpgshntn wrote:Whoops, I stayed off TLS and met precisely zero of you.

Hey incoming 1Ls!!!
I am currently a 1L at UVA, and my roommate (another 1L) and I are looking for another female roommate next year. We live about 10 minutes from campus in a 3BR/3BATH apartment. Rent $500/month/person + water and electricity. PM if interested.

Re: UVA Class of 2016
Just a heads up, if you have submitted a deposit you should be able to activate your @virginia.edu email address. Unfortunately you can't change the part before the @virginia.edu. Here's a link to go through the process, you'll need your SIS ID and NetBadge password.
You can check if you're eligible by searching for yourself in the UVA directory at the bottom right of the UVA Homepage
Also, the one good piece of advice from the financial aid session during Open House was to set up direct deposit on SIS if you will be receiving loans. You can access that easily from the SIS page once you are logged in.

Re: UVA Class of 2016
I can't seem to access my UVA email. I'm clicking the 'activate your UVa gmail account,' trying to take the responsible computing tutorial, but am sent to a page where I'm told I either sent my deposit within the last 72 hours (I sent it in a while back) or that I have already completed the tutorial and can access my account (that I haven't).
I've been able to create a 'deliverable address' for my @virginia.edu account (my primary alias) but I'm not getting anything in my deliverable account when I send test emails.
Is there an UVa gmail interface I should be seeing or is all @virginia.edu email supposed to be sent to your 'deliverable account' (say your yahoo or gmail account)?
Anyone have similar issues? Help please! Thank you

Try signing into gmail directly with your UVA login ID (XXXXX@virginia.edu) and leave the password field blank. It will redirect you to the SIS login page. If you can login there then you are set (login with your UVA ID without the @virginia.edu and your NetBadge password).MrHairyLegs wrote:I can't seem to access my UVA email. Alternatively, just use this link: http://www.mail.virginia.edu and login with your ID and NetBadge password and it'll redirect to google if you are good to go (otherwise it'll redirect to some other page to set up your account).
If your name isn't showing up in a directory search on the uva homepage you can't activate your email yet.
Regarding the deliverable address, once in the UVA gmail interface from the second paragraph above, I used gmail's forwarding instead of UVA's deliverable addresses.
If you're still having problems after trying the above, I would contact IT.

Are we expecting any more merit or need offers to go out anytime soon? If they do give awards we get notified correct? As in, it won't show up randomly on the SIS page?

The deposit deadline for scholarship recipients is April 5th. So, some of us are hoping for another round of merit aid the week of April 8th.JamesDean1955 wrote:Are we expecting any more merit or need offers to go out anytime soon? No, people tend to overstate this IMO. The fratty reputation comes mainly from the undergrad, and even there it's only as fratty as you want it to be. Most everyone is really nice and down to earth.lawschoolboundfuture wrote:what's the culture like? Is it as fratty as people make out?
*Disclaimer: the "not fratty" thing doesn't apply to Foxfield.

The top law schools attract pretty much the same type of people. I doubt you're going to find much difference between the student body at UChicago vs. Cornell vs. Berkeley vs. Harvard. The fact is, everyone in your class crushed the LSAT and has a decent to good GPA with probably some decent softs. Some may be frat boys, many may be uber-nerds, and there may even be some slacker underachievers sprinkled in.lawschoolboundfuture wrote:what's the culture like? Is it as fratty as people make out?
Basically, I'd say don't sweat it.

I'm just wondering if my lack of softball love means it will be hard to have a social life. Everyone seems obsessed with the game

No
The social life at UVA is not generated by softball. It's just another thing people do with their section
