Re: Chicago Law Class of 2016
So the options seem to be (if you're staying in Hyde Park and not Downtown/Lincoln, etc.)
(A) living in on-campus housing close to the school, generally cheaper, but farther from actual stuff - Restaurants, etc - in Hyde Park.
or
(B) Living closer to the "stuff" but farther from the school, and also paying a little more.
Does that seem to be correct? Are there significant downsides to campus housing? I'm wondering why it seems like so many students live in non-campus housing.

Do you guys think it would be douchey/inappropriate to try some networking at these admitted students receptions? The one I am going to is in my target market

I. Just. Got. A. Ruby. Just got the email from Dean Schill.
I don't understand. My numbers are 170/3.8 and I was under the impression that it's a merit scholarship. My mind is 100% blown and I'm waiting for them to send the haha-jk-wrong person email.

The amount of unspeakable things I would do for a Ruby is too damn high.

Well what do you mean by networking? Talking to people and building a normal relationship/rapport, or trying to get an in for a 1L summer job?ChampagnePapi wrote:Do you guys think it would be douchey/inappropriate to try some networking at these admitted students receptions? Re: Chicago Law Class of 2016
There are definitely cheaper unrenovated 1BR's. I was quoted 1100 over the phone (after discount)2014 wrote:Re: Mock Classes
You should definitely go. Both professors are great.
The problem with real classes is that you are at the mercy of whatever class is convenient and whatever we are doing that day, meaning you will almost certainly be lost. A mock class gives you the chance to probably do a couple of pages of reading in advance and caters to your supposed level of understanding. Plus logistically we don't have enough room in our classrooms to stuff another ~100 or however many of you all are coming to ASW.
Re: Regents
I have a friend in a renovated 1 BR paying 1450 I think, an unrenovated one is like 100 less.
My rent for an unrenovated 2 BR is 1600 and utilities run another 60 ish a month
I don't know of anyone in a furnished one here so can't comment whether they exist or not.
Your rent will also vary based on what your view is (we have a lake view and are on an upper floor so that probably raises it) as well as whether you have a pet.
If anyone is planning on having a car at Regents parking is 175 a month but it is in a heated garage and you can always find spots.

+1. I think it will probably be next week since they said our NA needed to be in by the 22nd. But I'm really keeping my fingers crossed for this week. Would make my life so much easier.florida1949 wrote: hope this means the rest of us march admits get scholarship info soon, congrats again.

Re: Chicago Law Class of 2016
There is very little "actual stuff" in HP, so I would not think about it in terms of being closer to restaurants. I don't know why Regents became the place for 1Ls to live, but it did and so now that's a reason on its own for people to live there. I can't comment on what the housing near school is like, but I think people choose to live in Regents because it's nicer and it's where most people are. If those two things don't seem worth the higher rent to you, I think you'll be perfectly happy in the campus housing.cwid1391 wrote:So the options seem to be (if you're staying in Hyde Park and not Downtown/Lincoln, etc.)

Had a dream last night that we all went to a Dave and Busters the night before classes started. Also, Regulus was actually a cat. I need to get off of TLS...
