To anyone else who deferred from last year- have you received anything in the mail from the school? I just realized that my mailing address on SIS still reflected my old college address and I'm hoping that I haven't been missing a bunch of updates.

Re: UVA Class of 2016
on the topic of scholarships... two questions.
First, does anyone have any info as to the accessibility of externally-provided scholarships, particularly for traditional students?
Secondly, as to the funds that UVA will have back in their pool after deposits - is the poster who said they may try to lure in noncommittals suggesting that people can have more than one-deposit? Secondly, although pure conjecture, How much money %age wise, are we thinking will be left in UVA's coffers? It seems as though UVA has been fairly generous this year with schollys, and thus, could conceivably even find itself at a deficit.... nonetheless, if there is a substantial amount remaining, what is the likelihood that it would be dispersed up and down the scale evenly perse, e.g. ppl at sticker go to 5k, ppl at 15k go to 20k.... ?

Great game, hope the team is like this/better next year.MrHairyLegs wrote:If you're bored sitting at home, treat yourself-->(3) Duke vs. UVA on EPSN!
With regard to scholarships, I would not expect a large % of money to be left over. I wouldn't expect the sort of across the board bumps gaucholaw was suggesting. As I said earlier, I would imagine that most of the money they have would be used to pry away applicants from other T14 schools where they have equal or better offers.
Just my guess though, based somewhat on my experiences last year.

Haha thanks, good to know. Sorry if this has been already been answered in this thread or if it is common knowledge, but like I said I deferred and am feeling a bit out of the loop. When are the FAFSA and Need Access forms due? I see 3/22/13 on SIS, but I'd like to confirm that as it's a pretty big deadline.

I got that email as well but I thought that it went out to all admitted students because I thought UVA didn't award finaid to international students.North wrote:Anybody get their financial aid package today? Some dude in the applicants thread apparently did.

Yep, no need based aid. Virginia is stingy when it comes to need grants though, according to their website.

Have you set up your SIS account? Maybe if you log in and click on the Financial Aid link you will have your information available, too.North wrote:Oh man, I didn't get the e-mail. That's not good.

Re: UVA Class of 2016
Why would you think it's not good? They did say they would be releasing packages on a rolling basis starting today. Also, for the vast majority of applicants this is only going to be info on what loans you qualify for, as UVA isn't big on need grants (they certainly give a lot in merit aid though).North wrote:Oh man, I didn't get the e-mail. Shoot. I logged into SIS to see if there was anything for me (I didn't get the email), and it looks like I needed to fill something out on here too? Did you guys have to fill out the info on "apply for financial aid 2013-14" before you received your offers?

So were you, unfortunately. Just loans. Oh well, I dreamed a dream.JamesDean1955 wrote:Also, for the vast majority of applicants this is only going to be info on what loans you qualify for, as UVA isn't big on need grants (they certainly give a lot in merit aid though).

I only did the need access and FAFSA, and I got mine today. I don't think you need to do anything else.digifly wrote:Shoot. Also, I noticed I was awarded about 4k higher than the listed COA on the financial aid website. Is this maybe a hint that tuition is going up? Or is it more likely meant to accommodate al the grown up bills I had to itemize on need access application?

I can't seem to access the section of the SIS site to create a password. In other words, I can't view my financial award (if any).

I don't think we had to after all. Someone in the applicants thread e-mailed to ask about it and this is what he got back:digifly wrote:Shoot. bandersnatch wrote:Got this info from the financial aid office regarding the financial aid application on SIS:
The Law School does not use the University Financial Aid Application (UFAA) online web form. All you need to complete for consideration of aid is the FAFSA and Need Access. We anticipate our review process and financial aid award notifications to begin sometime in March. You will receive an email communication from the Director when your financial aid has been packaged and is available for you to view on SIS.

Hmmmm, as of now I'm getting "inquiry access denied." I assume you are all just clicking "view financial aid"?

If anyone is interested: I didn't get an email about my financial packet being complete (I did receive a general email in the earlier about fin aid, asw, etc), but I checked SIS just for the hell of it and my financial packet is complete and ready to be accepted

Re: UVA Class of 2016
You don't need to do the application on SIS (that's the old UFAA one). Just do the FAFSA and Need Access. I got mine aid awardloan offers today as did some others. Seems COA is going to be around 75k give or take. So UVA estimates for OOS tuition for next year is sitting at around $55k...

Re: UVA Class of 2016
I didn't get the email, but I checked SIS and the loan package is there. A couple questions..
Anyone know when we have to accept/decline the loans?
Does anyone know if we can change our SIS password? Mine is a bunch of odd characters that is going to be annoying to remember.
Andddd... does anyone know how to change our email alias or whatever? Like instead of J2k@virginia.edu we could change it to john.smith@virginia.edu or something? I like that better
Sorry I'm not very computer savvy. Thanks!
