I think it was Thursday? I went to Columbia and was immediately ushered back into the 116 stop by NYPD and told to exit on the West side. They had 3-4 blocks taped off and were redirecting all traffic West. Some lady left her bag under the bench by the main gate on the Broadway side and it got called in as a suspicious package.

Such a fiasco.

May your Monday at Columbia be free of forgetful bag leavers.

To be fair, Im guessing that was a function of the post-Boston hysteria. A world without forgetful bag-leavers...that's the dream.

I realized you could pay the deposit with a credit card, so it's official!! How long does it usually take to receive all the other nonsense (CLS email, ID, etc?)?

You can call to see if they've generated your CUID yet. Mine took four or five days after my admittance.

hmmmm so how's housing looking for everybody? i managed to see one of the UAH apts this monday and i liked it a lot, but i think it's mainly for couples. i don't know, i think i'd rather live in an apartment than go back to dorm/residence living like lionsgate or lenfest. plus i'd rather furnish myself. but i guess it'd be nice to live with everybody too, so i really don't know.

Columbia's housing are just apartments in which Columbia is your landlord (generally speaking). I definitely don't want to feel like I'm in a dorm either, but I didn't get that sense at all when I visited the housing options yesterday. Also, a lot of them come unfurnished --you just have to specify that on your application.

oh are you talking about the apartments on west 115th and 116th street and other UAH housing? yeah, i think i'd prefer those options. UAH isn't law school specific tho right? so you could end up with pretty random roommates. i just saw pics of lenfest, which is law school exclusive and i think mostly 1L-targeted, and just had a gag reflex over how much it resembled my freshman rez.

Ahaha yeah I can see that. Yeah UAH is general grad school housing, plus anyone else affiliated with Columbia, from what I understand. I think even the law school specific apartments don't feel too dorm-like as long as you get one of the unfurnished ones. Lenfest is entirely furnished I think, so I'm guessing that would feel most like a dorm.

I'm sorry I'm a lunatic, but you guys are about to find that out anyways, so it's time to show my true colors.

Has anyone who deposited much earlier gotten information about Uni ID's, Columbia email, student portal log in, other shit that makes this official? I know we got our CUID with our acceptance letter, but it looks like that's different than the Uni. Just trying to see if they do that on a rolling basis, or if we all have to wait until later in the summer.

Reason #253 I'm so excited to go to CLS next year:

They have a wine decanter with a Columbia insignia in the bookstore.

I got my Columbia email address! Sadly, I didn't get to pick it. They gave me my initials plus some numbers, and the email interface isn't very good (I may either link it to my Gmail or use it only for certain things). I'm still thrilled to have it.

You'll get an email with instructions at some point. I deposited a few weeks ago.
