Everyone's welcome at bar review. I'll post the bar information once it gets sent out to the class (normally Monday or Tuesday).
Yes yes yes! Come to bar review!
"What/where is bar review?", says the noob who will be arriving on thursday
Bar review is the bar meetup every Thursday night.
Where hasn't been announced yet. It'll go out on the listserv probably Mon or Tues and someone will report back here.

Looks like the bar this week is Barn & Co. Here's the Google Maps directions from the school:
http://[link redacted]/maps/WfyF7
Bar review typically starts at 9, but this week there is a wristband deal starting at 10. People don't normally start showing up en masse until 10:00 - 11:00 anyway, but there are generally some early comers.

Rizza, that excel spreadsheet you uploaded to Facebook just ruined my day. I vaguely understood that my take home number would be low but seeing the cold, unarguable facts is just so damn annoying.
I really appreciate the time and effort you put in to creating the spread sheet though. Looks like our undergraduate majors are useful after all.

Well that's the after tax take home, so if your take home is around 60k its like you're living on 85-90k salary, which certainly isn't bad. Glad it helped
my ug is still worthless, learned that in grad school

If any of the 2016 class wants to meet up before bar review, I live pretty close and to Barn & Co and would be more than happy to grab some food / drinks beforehand.

I'm into this. How do I distinguish the law students from the general public?

We all look like this:

But seriously, the wristband deal is probably only open to groups, so anyone wearing a wristband is likely a law student. A lot of people tend to arrive together, so large groups of early to mid-20 year olds coming in are likely law students too. Otherwise I'm not sure; it might be a good idea for some of you admitted students to meet up with each other before heading over (since I'm assuming most of you will be downtown anyway). Maybe some TLSers would be interested in meeting up with you guys for a drink beforehand? I would but I'm busy until right around 10.

I'm not sure yet. I'm weighing the advantages of being able to walk to the law school vs. cheaper options farther away.

I'm debating the exact same thing.

If you are considering options further away (which I would) I would advise you to take the same public transit you'd be taking daily during rush hour. The L is generally pretty efficient but can get pretty packed (not everyone enjoys this) and buses crawl through rush hour traffic because city planners thought two lane roads with parking taking up one lane was the way to go.
Lakeview and Lincoln Park are pretty cool areas and the red line puts you about a 10 minute walk from NU Law.

Last year local streeterville apartments had a deal for any Northwestern grad student who signed for an apartment that weekend- that's what I ended up doing with my then girlfriend who is going to med school year here. I wonder if they'll be doing it again? we got $900 off first month rent!

That's a good idea, I'll definitely try to do that so I can get a better picture of the commute

In McClurg all I got off was a $175 application fee or something equally lame. Onterie I think gave a free month. So they'll likely vary somewhat by building.
More generally, the close/far expensive/cheap decision is something only each person can decide for themself, knowing what you know about your finances and your patience with commuting and your space needs. Both are totally valid ways to go.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
