The Far West UT Shuttle right in front of The Ridge Appartments takes 24 minutes to arrive at the Law School on Dean Keeton.

This site shows all the arrival and destination times of the UT shuttle system so you can estimate your travel time if you end up using the UT shuttle.

Never underestimate the aggravation that is Austin traffic.romanticegotist wrote:For those of you who are optimistic about being able to handle the traffic on the way to work; even at 2:30 on a Sunday the traffic going both ways on I-35 around campus and downtown was crawling at about 20mph.

As a frequent visitor frequently frustrated by Austin's traffic, these are very wise words. I'm willing to pay a bit more to live within walking distance!!!philosoraptor wrote:Never underestimate the aggravation that is Austin traffic.

In undergrad, I always walked to campus. It generally only sucks during the summer when it's 90+ degrees outside. Driving is an easy option, too, if you're willing to shell out a few hundred $$$ for a parking permit each year. You can buy permits to different surface lots and parking garages around campus. If you've got a C permit, you can park right next to the rec center, which is within a short walking distance to the law school. I had a C permit one year, and it was only like $200, if I remember correctly. Pretty convenient if you like working out, too.

Does anyone know if the the UT shuttle times that are listed are more or less accurate? I understand if they're off by one or two minutes but do these times account for traffic and everything?

the UT ones are probably inaccurate, but if it's the FA or IF line, there's one every 5 minutes or so that it usually isn't that big of a deal. don't know much about the frequency of the other lines.hobie2515 wrote:Does anyone know if the the UT shuttle times that are listed are more or less accurate? Re: Texas Class of 2016
From my experience in undergrad the UT shuttle I took, which was the CR route (and one of the least frequented stops), was always within 5 minutes of the posted time. When I would take the city busses they were always very accurate with regard to the time they were scheduled. All in all, I'd say that both the UT shuttles and the city buses are definitely worth taking, especially because we as students get to ride them for "free." As long as you don't mind standing during your ride occasionally or sitting next to a smelly person every now and then you should be fine.hobie2515 wrote:Does anyone know if the the UT shuttle times that are listed are more or less accurate? Buses will generally arrive within 5 minutes of one another. But, it's going to take longer than you think to get to campus during rush hour. Like others have said, rush hour sucks. Even on residential streets.Chaucer1343 wrote:+1hobie2515 wrote:Does anyone know if the the UT shuttle times that are listed are more or less accurate? Re: Texas Class of 2016
But with the traffic, do they still arrive at their stops within a 5 minutes of their posted time? It seems like the times were created with traffic factored in but I just wanted to get an actual perspective. I guess I don't mind living a little further from campus if there is a shuttle nearby and if the times are more or less accurate. But if for example, I take the Wickersham Lane bus (25 minutes in the morning), I don't want it to actually take 35-40 minutes.

Re: Texas Class of 2016
Per an anonymous source...
not applying this cycle, but currently live in austin for undergrad. I take the crossing place bus every day (close to the Wickersham route) and have taken the Wickersham bus before. The posted times of arrival can vary by a couple of minutes, but the time-to-destination is almost never off. The bus drivers are pretty aggressive and will cut into the front of access road lanes, cut of semi's etc. Austin drivers are aware that the bus drivers are aggressive and will usually give them quite a bit of latitude.
I live off a crossing place and it almost never takes me more than 17 minutes or riding time to get to campus. If I have class at 8:00 I walk down to the bus stop a little before 7:30 and always make it to class with 10 or 15 minutes to spare, sometimes walking halfway across campus and getting coffee. If you end up taking the buses you'll figure out the best time for you. They've been a lifesaver for me and in my experience are extremely reliable.

Re: Texas Class of 2016
Well if all goes well I will be living like 5 minutes away from the LS so I'm happy I don't have to consider this stuff.
Another thing to consider is that Austin is a pretty bike-friendly town (the shadow of Lance Armstrong still looms large) so there is probably a sweet spot around campus of 'too far to walk but doable by bike' that may not be crazy expensive.

You have to upload a pic. I think they give the pics to profs as a face book (the original meaning) to begin the semester. At least, I'm pretty sure one of the profs said that the beginning of last year.shifty_eyed wrote:What is this?michaelm55 wrote:I just uploaded my picture on FreshLaw. Re: Texas Class of 2016
Am I crazy, or did the COL allowance increase rather significantly from what was posted about a month ago? Unless I'm misreading something, this seems like good news for budget purposes.

I don't remember the exact numbers, but I'm positive that the instate COA isn't >500 bucks from what it has been for months.Bucketseat wrote:Am I crazy, or did the COL allowance increase rather significantly from what was posted about a month ago? Re: Texas Class of 2016
Hi there,
I am a recent UT Law School graduate and have a place to rent out which is walking distance to the law school. It's a condo unit located at 910 Duncan Lane (just north of 32nd St on Red River), 725 square feet. One bedroom, one bath. The condominium complex is called The Pointe.
Please call 713-703-9196 for more information or to indicate interest in the condo. Looking for somebody to sign a 3 year lease.

I will withdraw all my other applications and sign UT's letter of intent in the next few days.
This is happening.

I'm still putting it at roughly 10% that I'll ever non-sarcastically say "Hook 'em" but I'm really excited about the fall.
