Please find this, it sounds amazing.
No word on named scholarship interviews yet, right?

Found it.

I'm not pretending that NYU is completely unaffected by the economy and none of the grads have trouble finding or keeping jobs. Also, I guess the article wasn't as inflammatory as I recalled after reading it quickly. Still, though, I'm in a snarky mood, and the fact that this blogger took the time to link readers to the article and still got NYLS mixed up with NYU makes me laugh.

I appreciate your snark, and I wish there were a comments section in the article. I know that NYU's career prospects aren't 100%, but my perspective is that one would have to have pretty poor grades and put very little effort into finding a job in order to end up completely unemployed (especially within the NYC job market). We're pretty lucky that we (*knock on wood*) won't have to face the prospect of suing our law school over career prospects.

What a lot of people don't understand is that percentages of students getting jobs isn't fixed. For instance, 82% of people who do EIW get big firm jobs from it (not sure how much that number goes up from hustling). Although there is some of that "taking x number of kids from school y" going on, putting that 83% in a firm isn't a fixed thing. People completely striking out completely (generally) is due to bad grades + strange and/or unwilling to hustle. Any one person can bet on a higher likelihood of getting a job than whatever the unemployment rate is (unless you're one of those people who falls into the "strange" category

).
What I mean is that you really should not worry about being employed (if not necessarily in the position you most desire). It's a combination of factors that causes one to become unemployed from a T6/7 school, some of which are wholly avoidable.

There seems to be a lot of anti-NYU sentiment on TLS. Hold me, NYU thread, and tell me that I've made the right choice.

I don't understand why everyone is always hating on NYU

Part of the reason seems to be that NYU supposedly focuses on numbers but that definitely has not been the case in my experience.

I think it has something to do with the acceptance rate too, which is around 20% compared to like 12-15% for the rest of the T14. But, they still maintain high medians so it's not like the high acceptance rate means their standards are slipping or that its easy to get into, though it may be compared to the rest of the T6.
Whatever, I'm going to go cuddle with the view book now. Greenwich Village here we come!

Agreed! Also, I work with a bunch of NYU Law grads and they cannot stop raving about their experience at the school. NYU grads are the only people I've meet who seem to have genuinely enjoyed law school (and learned a ton in the process). Also, for what it's worth, one of the NYU alumni I know transferred there from UChi and another turned down Harvard for NYU

I think if we have a higher acceptance rate it's more due to the fact that people who want NYU are the people who NYU wants (high LSAT/decent>high gap and/or a specific subset of soft factors). Because of that, admission here is more predictable, which doesn't necessarily mean much wrt selectivity.
Also, just got back from a firm event with Paul Weiss. You have no idea how much of an advantage being in proximity to the top firms is as opposed to being at another school.

So money offers. When does NYU start and stop making offers for non-named merit/financial aid? Also, you have to submit both the FAFSA and the NeedAccess form, right? Anything else?

Correct, those are the only two forms. They've started already awarding packages (or awarding nothing, as the case may be) for people that submitted in the first or second week of January, so it definitely seems like they're moving pretty quickly. What we're not sure about is how they handle financial aid packages for people who applied for named scholarships, i.e. do they wait until the interviews are over to evaluate those people for merit scholarships, or do they do that now regardless of the outcome of the named scholarships. Unsure.

Congrats!! Via email? How long ago did you submit need access? Did you apply for a named scholarship too? Sorry, lots of questions.

I didn't apply for named scholarships, and I submitted need access on Monday. It's a "Dean's Award Scholarship" so I'm not sure if that's need-based, merit-based, or a combination of the two.
I'll take it either way.

Nice! I submitted on Friday but I applied for a named a scholly too. Mind if I ask your approximate numbers? I think Deans can be need, merit or a combo, definitely something to be proud of!

I was honestly not expecting a red cent from any of the T6, so this is a very pleasant, if unexpected, surprise.

I think Dean's Scholarship is their catch-all merit/aid distribution. Good job!

Jam, can you confirm this based on last year's activity: if you applied for named, and get a Dean's offer now, that means you weren't a finalist for the named, but if you do not hear about aid right now (despite submitting the forms a while ago), could that mean that you may hear about the named interview soon?

I'm not sure what the timeline is, but the one close friend who was a finalist for a named didn't get anything before becoming a finalist.
