Also, it's going to be in the high 30s-low 40s with flurries on Wed and Thurs. You probably don't want to be walking around in a skirt and flats.

I'm a girl and I was just planning on wearing jeans, riding boots, and a normal shirt. I figure it's better to be casual than overdressed at these events lol.

Oh, I know the idea of a skirt and flats in this weather is ludicrous, especially since it seems like we'll be in and out of buildings. I just got spooked by the mention of business casual. Glad to know I won't be the only one disregarding it! Really, looking put together should be enough.

Which classes are you guys thinking of visiting? I was thinking of going to Cohn's Comparative Constitutional Law class on Wednesday morning. I really want to make Bermann and Pistor's Lawyering Across Multiple Legal Orders class on Thursday afternoon but it overlaps with Financial Aid Q&A.

Has anybody filled out the housing application yet? Why can't I find the area where I can enter specific preferences, such as location, size, etc.?

I'm not sure, Gabriella, that's weird. I just opened it this morning and was able to do that, it was the section right beneath School Information (where I identified myself as a J.D. student, etc.) for me.gabriella97 wrote:Has anybody filled out the housing application yet? Another housing question - the site asks if I want coed housing, single gender housing, or either. I hope this doesn't sound too stupid, but they're referring to the building, not the specific room, right? So by choosing "coed housing" there'd be females in the building, but I wouldn't necessarily be rooming with one?

Re: Columbia Class of 2016
I sent an email to the housing address listed on the site and said I was interested in a specific building (Butler Hall, what what!) They just sent an email back saying they added it to my file. You can probably just write up a few sentences and email it to them, since I don't see any free text fields on the application.gabriella97 wrote:Has anybody filled out the housing application yet? This happened to me too when I tried out the housing application yesterday. Wonder why it happens to some of us and not others? Thanks for the tip though - will do that!starrydreamz3 wrote:I sent an email to the housing address listed on the site and said I was interested in a specific building (Butler Hall, what what!) Re: Columbia Class of 2016
I'm sure you're fine. Someone on the fb group said that they called them and they weren't even done verifying the materials they did have (sounded like they were swamped). I'd just call on Monday to let them know your forms are on their way.Alassio wrote:So just how "soft" is this financial aid deadline? Re: Columbia Class of 2016
It's pretty soft. The instructions on the questionnaire even said "March 1 or as soon as you receive admission" or something along those lines. I called the office just to check and they said if you get it in ASAP the difference is negligible.Alassio wrote:So just how "soft" is this financial aid deadline? Re: Columbia Class of 2016
Anyone available to look over an LOCI? I'm on reserve. (I don't need it edited. I would just appreciate general comments relating to wording, content, etc.)
I feel like my background and aspirations are a good (and unique) fit for Columbia. My LSAT score says otherwise though.
GPA is above the 75th and LSAT is a few points below the 25th.
I am asking here because you guys had all the right pieces in all the right places (and were thereby accepted).

Is anybody here familiar with the various housing options? What are the advantages/disadvantages of Lionsgate, Lenfest, and the 115/116th street apartments? I know it's a general question, but I only walked past the buildings when I visited a few months ago and would love any insight!
(And I'm thinking maybe I'm not the only one....)

I can only speak to Lenfest. I visited a couple other apartments during the ASW, but not lionsgate or the ones next to Warren.mls wrote:Is anybody here familiar with the various housing options? It is pretty dorm-y, ikea-esque furniture, but not bad. The studios are a decent size and it seems like it's actually possible to get them as a single/non-married student, which is different than the impression I got from the housing stuff online.
According to the 1L who showed it off, it costs $2k/mo., but a lot of first year students live there so there's some community. It's what I'm leaning toward personally for that reason.
The others I saw were all UAH (ie, not specific to the law school), and were way nicer, and much cheaper. There was a beautiful 1BD for like 1600/mo that was about double the size of the studio in Lenfest, though it seems like those are basically all filled by couples.

Has anyone heard from the admissions office about the travel subsidy? I've submitted my proof of purchase via email several days ago and haven't received any news from them so far. Does anyone have the similar experience?

I felt that I had autoding numbers from this school and was recently put on the reserve list. Can I take this as a shred of hope? I am planning on writing a LOCI and retaking the LSAT in June - should I mention the LSAT?
Would appreciate any input/advice!

Checking in. Would love to go visit on the 3rd and 4th, but not in the states. so if anyone does go, please feel free to go on a diatribe about how bad the food was, or maybe gush about how great it was! Who the other c/o 2016 students were, if you liked them..what was said about need based aid limits during the fin aid Q&A, if 1Ls actually get the classes they are really interested in the bid for classes outside the curriculum. I would gobble up information about how even the doors to the main entrance of the law faculty work haha anything!

Based on last year's thread, seems this takes anything from a week to twoslienthill wrote:Has anyone heard from the admissions office about the travel subsidy?
