Alot, there are 168 hours in a week, factor 56 hours for sleep that leaves 112 hours. lets be conservative and say I work 50 hour weeks. that leaves 72 hours.... granted, errands, lul periods etc, take lots of time.... but I don't think 4 nights a week for 5 hours each for a grand total of 20 hours is that unreasonable.... its just math kids

Re: UVA Class of 2016
I personally would love to hear more from 1Ls who lived in both Ivy and Jeffersonian and what their impressions are. From what I understand, Jeffersonian is the "preferred" living area because it is closer to the campus, is cheaper and somewhat nicer... yet it is a little less central than Ivy from a social standpoint. Us future 1Ls gotta make a decision soon so more input would be awesome!

Do you go to UVA? A huge chunk of 1Ls party 2-3 times a week up until November. And 2Ls and 3Ls..... hard to even put a figure on it

Gaucho, go to Ivy, it has that Isla Vista vibe. Jeffersonian is great but much quieter, and much, much smaller. Ten minute walk is no big deal when you want to hit up a specific party, but when you want a random party to find you, you need Ivy.
And for those of you who don't get into Jeffersonian but still want to be super close, just check Craigslist for "Arlington". There are a bunch of town houses and apartments along that street, all of which are super close to the law school. I found several to choose from and didn't even start looking until may, many were still available in July.
Also, for those distressed at the idea of living somewhere without an in unit washer/dryer (Ivy, Jeffersonian, many others), there's a great laundry service aimed at students in cville, they pick up, wash, dry, fold and drop off your laundry every week for $1/pound.

How does laundry work for Jeffersonian? Is there a main "laundry center" in the complex area? Same for Ivy?anon sequitur wrote:Gaucho, go to Ivy, it has that Isla Vista vibe. Also, how useful would a car be living in either of those areas?

The UVa Law apparel will get you much more attention out of Virginia than in Charlottesville. If you can rock it to a bar, you're going to have multiple women ask you if you go to UVA Law, and then the hardest part is done they started the convo,

i live in ivy with no car. i've managed, but it sucks. it makes your life law school. i've had a car for the past few weeks, and just the feeling that I can have astarbucks when I want is very freeing and makes the other stuff much easier.shadowofjazz wrote:How does laundry work for Jeffersonian? ivy is overrated. if u don't have a car jefforsonian is much better. you'll be invited to the same parties anyway - it's a 10 minute walk. the rent is much less. ur also closer to the law school and supermarket. ivy is 3/4 mile further from the supermarket.

Re: UVA Class of 2016
Hey friends, really sorry if this has been touched on already, but:
I want to apply to a 2BR in Jeffersonian for this year. I do not have a roommate lined up. Can I still submit an app requesting a 2BR without having a future roommate submit their app too? With the understanding that they would submit an app provided I actually secured a 2BR?
Or can I only apply for a 2BR if I already have a roommate lined up who can apply when I do?
Many thanks

No need to call. You can send it in without it lined up. Lining up a roomate in Jeffersonian is no problem because its so limited. They know that. Just submit right at midnight.shibby wrote:Hey friends, really sorry if this has been touched on already, but:

Re: UVA Class of 2016
Anyone have any suggestions on non-ivy/Jeffersonian living? I will be living with my gf who is a teacher and we are looking for somewhere a little further away than those, but still close enough so I'm not completely alienated .

There's a new place right next to the law school that's being built right now that'll be done by August. It's called the Pavilion at North Grounds, I know some 2L's are planning on living there. It looks really nice but also super pricy.
