Same. Quick question: If we're taking out loans, it seems like NU tuition and living numbers allocates for ~$1550 for rent. If our rent will be more, can loans exceed that number given by NU?
They allocate that for room AND board (groceries/food). I don't know whether they'd allow you to take out loans exceeding that number (I'm thinking it's highly unlikely they would), but I would seriously recommend not paying that much for rent.
ETA: If you have dependents, then perhaps they up the budget.

You don't strike me as particularly familiar with Macbook Airs, so it's probably best if you get off your high horse about squinting at them. I use a 13" Macbook Air for law school and have never wanted a monitor for home use. The screen and the keyboard are the same size as any other 13" computer anyone else has, it's just thinner. Which is pretty great for law school, to be honest. I am using a regular heavy-ass 13" PC laptop this summer, and I can't imagine carrying around something like that with all my books during school.
The fact that you don't mind the small screen, and I don't mind the weight of a 5lb or 6lb device vs. 4lb just means we have different tastes. What model is your heavy 13" PC?
Additionally "as any other 13" computer anyone else has" - how popular *are* other 13" ultrabooks/laptops that aren't Airs? And don't forget Airs- start at 11, not at 13. I hope you can at least agree with me that 11" is pretty unreasonably small.

re: RA your first year. I did this for my professor starting the beginning of second semester of 1L year and was told it was incredibly rare. It also isn't a ton of money, $10/hr, and realistically (even if you can actually do research, seems a lot of professors won't take on a 1L) you won't be doing more than 10-15 hours a week. This all depends on the individual and the professor for which you do research. Hope this helps!

I loved it (continued part time through this summer, too) mostly because of the professor. It was nice because i was/am doing research on an article that is more historical than legal meaning my research mostly consists of reading and making notes on biographies and historical accounts of the civil rights movement. It was nice during the semester because I used it as a productive means of procrastination when my brain just couldn't process anymore case law. I'm also positive it is what got me my other job for the summer. As far as grades that is the difficult part, i was fortunate in that it didn't negatively impact my grades at all but for people that have difficulty managing their workload, it would be another story. I think I made all of two hundred dollars over the semester but it wasn't about the money for me so i can't speak to how much you could potentially earn. Hope this helps!

I don't think I've ever seen a job listing for working at the library, and I've never recognized any of the people working the desk, etc. as classmates (although only having gone through 1L, there are some former 2Ls and 3Ls I wouldn't have recognized anyway). So I would guess that it doesn't really happen.

Wasn't there an email on the listserve a couple of weeks ago looking for people to work at the library?

You have 10 days, don't see why it would be a problem.

The problem is that it's 2.5 more weeks of work when I'd kill to be in Chicago but yeah, I'm sure it'll be fine.

Found a place on day 2 of my 4 day apartment hunt. 775, off Clark & Deming with a red line stop and bus stop nearby. There's also a Trader Joe's and a bunch of good, cheap ethnic food on Clark... Pretty awesome location.
Now, to figure out what to do with two free days in Chicago...

Are most people looking outside of Streetersville/NNS/Gold Coast or whatever neighborhood the school is in?

I got an apartment in Eastern Ukrainian Village, due west on Chicago Avenue from the law school. It was a compromise for commuting and space.

These are still very important considerations. Would you feel more comfortable gunning at a micro brewery and surrounded by hipsters, or a cafe surrounded by hungover bros? Wicker Park is definitely the go to hipster gunner locale, and LP should be solid for bro gunners.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
