On a related note, whenever I tell people I'm going to Chicago for school, they always start off their reaction with some variant of "lolcold."

Bad example. There are many winter days when its warmer in Anchorage than it is in ChiTown.I know it's really cold but I think everyone I know used to 50 being the coldest it gets imagines I'm moving to like Alaska.

On another note, is there any time of the year where it's possible to run outside besides a few summer months? I love running and detest the
treadmill but figure I better learn to love it.

You see people running from March through December. I personally think the weather is fine from April - October.simplycatalina wrote:On another note, is there any time of the year where it's possible to run outside besides a few summer months? I love running and detest the

Thanks guys!
That's longer than I would have expected. I'm from San Francisco so I don't understand this whole concept of seasons.

Haha. I'm Canadian so I have some experience with the cold. When it gets down past a certain point, it honestly all just feels the same.. COLD! Minus 1 and minus 10 honestly all feels the same. At least Chi-town isn't like some parts of Canada or America where you literally do have to go out your 2nd floor window to get to school.simplycatalina wrote:Even better when it says "Feels like -13" right below that.bananasplit19 wrote:Soon...

California-Shmalifornia. At least in Chicago there's no "earthquake weather".

female future warmweather --> Chicago transplants, I bring you the truth. Passed from Dany to me, I now bring it to you:

(except lol white coat, I have it in purple because I'm not classy enough to keep a white coat clean).
the key is, don't put this coat on until you ABSOLUTELY have to. you'll know when. Keep your warmest stuff for the coldest days otherwise it loses efficacy.
And also, calm down my little pumpkins. I promise you'll be fine. I survived, you will too.

I'm looking for a new laptop. Might spring for the new Air because of dat Haswell. I just know for sure I want something ultralight with good battery life, with no touchscreen because 1) Windows 8 frightens me; and 2) I just know I'm going to break the screen right before finals.KremeCheez wrote:Everyone buying new MacBook Airs or what?

Re: Northwestern Class of 2016
Yeah, as soon as Apple announced the new Airs, any doubt was gone about my choice of laptop. Haswell, insane battery life, PCI-E SSDs... Hells to the yeah? The only questions left for me are whether to go 11" or 13" (leaning toward 13), and whether to custom order one with upgraded RAM and/or CPU - you can get it with an i7 and 8GB... The i7 is definitely overkill for a school laptop, but the RAM can't be upgraded later on and I could see 4GB starting to feel inadequate over the next 3 years.
I already have a desktop PC and an iPad that I'll be bringing with me, but I don't think I want to deal with the hassle of using an iOS device in place of a full computer for taking to class. I figure I'll use the iPad for ebooks and to entertain myself on my daily commute, and the Air will be my primary writing/researching/note-taking device. Plus, the $2k loan budget for buying a computer gives me an easy excuse to spend $1200-1500 on a new Air and pretend I'm being frugal about it

I have a 1 year old 13 inch Macbook Air and I think I'm going to stick with this until the end of law school. I got it because my previous laptop crapped out on me right before I started working on my personal statements and all. It'll be nice to finish my legal studies with the laptop that I started with.
Haswell and that incredible battery life does look very appealing though.

I think I'm getting the air even though I've been a PC person my whole life. Battery life is a big selling point and I really don't like Dells from my own experience. I'll have to put a gigantic Northwestern sticker on the front so none of my friends know I've switched to a Mac after everything I've said over the years.

Nope. But there are a lot of applewhores. Remember that law students, by and large, are not what you'd call computer people.dstars823 wrote:ive got like a brand new PC... am i the only one?
