Nothing special, just working and saving money, waiting for the economy to improve, etc. I've been out of school for a while and I enjoy itKind of Blue wrote:Nice! My family and gf will probably still be in town then, so maybe like the night before orientation?Tekrul wrote:Looks like everyone will be in by August 13th. Beer pong at the pourhouse then?
I also was told of a magnificent-sounding game called Wizard Sticks today, and I think Legal Methods would be an excellent time to try it out.

Re: Columbia Class of 2016
I FINALLY GOT HOUSING!!!
403 115th St. Apparently they have 2 bedroom apartments in that building? Pretty much everything I wanted except that it would have been nice to have one more roommate.
Moving in August 12th (which seems to be the most popular day to move in on this thread). August can't get here fast enough.

I'll be coming in early on the 14th, and I think I can manage a little bp that night. I was on fire this week.helix23 wrote:I'm injbagelboy wrote:I move in Aug 13. Re: Columbia Class of 2016
Sorry I vanished from the forum for so long - I'm trying to get off the grid for the summer before life gets crazy. I scrolled through the last few pages and have a few things to say:
1. BEER PONG PLEASE
2. I'd love to get out of the city for some biking, but don't know how feasible that is on the subway. Probably can work. I'm shopping for a bike now and have no idea what I'm doing. Always have heard that NYC biking is different from anywhere else...
3. I'm moving in on August 1st - anyone else coming in that early and want to hang before Orientation?

Get this bike so that I may steal it.
As dinky as they look, the bikes with very small diameter wheels are infinitely times more nimble and agile than greater diameter wheels bikes. What you sacrifice in comfortableness and smoothness in riding, you make up for with the ability to quickly navigate chaotic obstacles.
In addition, you don't need to get out of the city for nice riding. http://www.nyc.gov/html/edc/pdf/greenway_mapside.pdf
The NYC Greenway is a beautiful path (at least along the stretch from 125th street to 70th street, which is all I've seen of it). It's alongside the Hudson River, a very peaceful place to bike and enjoy ample amounts of green things, trees, grass, flowers. The path is open to bicycles and pedestrians only. The Morningside Park, basically right next to Columbia, is also a nice place to bike.
And sure I'd be down to grab a beer.

In the most improbable event since Hickory High won the state title in '52, I'm checking in.
Can anyone fill me in on what kind of housing I can expect this late in the game? Could I get anything that could be called "near" the school?

Re: Columbia Class of 2016
I just changed my housing this week (got the initial offer in May). So there is still some flexibility. I think it depends on your budget though. Everything I was offered was over $2K/mo, so I'm guessing the cheaper stuff went first. Then again, I was only looking for 1BDR apartments, so it will be different if you're looking for a studio.Monochromatic Oeuvre wrote:In the most improbable event since Hickory High won the state title in '52, I'm checking in.

Yeah, it may be too late to get the law school housing, but most of the university housing isn't too far away. I just hope Tekrul's warnings about UAH housing aren't super common.Monochromatic Oeuvre wrote:In the most improbable event since Hickory High won the state title in '52, I'm checking in.

If any of the 1/2/3Ls are checking this, can anyone that's lived in general UAH as a law student speak to the ability to avoid being surrounded by undergrads (like, if you request it)? Or will living in UAH inevitably result in you being disturbed by undergrad parties? (I'm already in Law School housing, I'm just wondering)

Re: Columbia Class of 2016
When I was visiting for ASW and saw the UAH housing on 119th, it didn't look like there were undergrads around. The apartments were nice & less expensive than LS housing. If anything, there were university employees and other graduate students there. I tried to enter into that lottery, but they ended up placing me in LS housing anyway ;/untar614 wrote:Yeah, it may be too late to get the law school housing, but most of the university housing isn't too far away.
