BoooooooWe anticipate that scholarship awards will be released the week of February 20. You will receive an email with a letter indicating whether you have been awarded a scholarship. Please note that we do not differentiate awards into merit- and need-based. Everyone will also receive a preliminary student loan package with this email. It is not necessary for you to have completed the FAFSA in order to receive this package; this will simply be a preliminary loan package indicating the amounts that you will likely be able to borrow if you wish. You will receive an official financial aid package later in the spring after the May 15 FAFSA deadline where you will be able to accept or decline particular loans and amounts.

Lame, still waiting on my meager assistance package. I'm regretting all the hassle I undertook to submit that NeedAccess form on time.

We'd hoped to get financial aid awards out for January admits today, but Committee is still finalizing. Going to be early next week instead.

Re: University of Chicago Class of 2015
For people who are looking into having roommates - are you guys trying to find them at ASW? I'm looking for apartments right now, and while I don't mind living alone in a studio or 1B it would save a few hundred bucks a month to have a roommate!
I was strongly considering Regents before, but based on the bad reviews and the constant theme that they overcharge residents I'm thinking about looking elsewhere. The deal for 2012-2013 is much worse than the 2011-2012 deal. I'm sure the "market rent" will go up by the time we all want to live there.
The Del Prado is a brand new apartment building owned by the same MAC management company, but it looks amazing. 2 people in a 2 bedroom would be 700-800 each!

Eh, 2 bedrooms in Regents are the same price. Regents gets pricey for 1BRs and some studios.fate12 wrote:For people who are looking into having roommates - are you guys trying to find them at ASW? As for the bad reviews, my impression is that they were the product of a concerted effort by the tenants to get back a bunch of staff members who were fired (after MAC management took over, they fired a bunch of the employees that had been around for a long time. They have been rehired since then). If you look at the dates for the bad reviews, they are all clustered around the time when MAC fired everyone.

@blan403 - I see what you're saying regarding people retaliating against the firing of all the staff, but I noticed that in reviews before that October/November cluster, people complained about the overcharging and the bad internet/cable and the high cost of heat. I like Del Prado because the apartment building was completely gutted and renovated and everything is brand new for the same price as Regents and it seems they're giving 1month free and other incentives because it is a new property.

Yeah, I see what you're saying about the overcharging and the cable. There's a move-in fee, a package fee, and then the heating costs. Over 12 months though, I don't think it makes a substantial difference. Especially when you consider the benefits of Regents. The $100 off monthly rent is almost the same thing as a free month, and free wi-fi/gym access are pretty cool (plus the indoor pool looks awesome).
It's a personal preference thing I guess. After living in a building with all of my friends senior year of college, I think it's a huge benefit to be close to your classmates (for both academic and social purposes). Also, the views from Regents just seem incredible.

Regents looked really solid when I checked it out. It's awesome to have the 6 right there to go downtown and fucking incredibly convenient to have a bus right on your fucking doorstep to the lawl school.
Oh, I forgot and a liquor store in the building. Biggest perk IMO.

Anyone else have theirs? Negative here, not even an email. Wonder why they wouldn't send them all in one batch...

Two of the latest reviews of Regents allege that the building has a bedbug infestation.

Anybody able to comment upon the veracity of that?

So there was never a second round of rubies; whats up with that? Any prediction if and when more rubies will start rolling out?

Re: University of Chicago Class of 2015
There was another round on March 2 (or at least a mini-round). I was offered one, and I remember reading that at least one other person on TLS was offered one as well. The response deadline is April 2. A related question- the letter says that if we accept, we need to withdraw from all other schools where we've been accepted and where we have outstanding applications (excluding waitlists). I haven't heard back from Yale, which I'm pretty sure is the only school I'd attend over the Ruby. It seems like some people last year were granted extensions, but this year's letter seems pretty firm on the April 2 date. Any other Ruby recipients in a similar situation?curiouscat wrote:Probably after the deposit date for Ruby recipients. April 15th. So is it possible to receive our financial aid package tomorrow and to later receive the ruby?curiouscat wrote:Probably after the deposit date for Ruby recipients. Oh - I thought it might be earlier than the regular scholarships. I'm not really sure how the second round of Rubies would typically work, but, yes, my (hopeful) guess is that it would go to people that received a scholarship previously. Maybe someone can confirm...?PopTorts13 wrote:April 15th.
