It's great that your super does that - out of curiosity, which building is this?piccolittle wrote:Depending on the building you're in, they might be willing to store it in the basement. I know it's common for people in my building to get new beds, and my super has a special place downstairs where he stores the horrible twin XLs.crooked wrote:Got my housing assignment and I'm really happy with it. Unfortunately, it's furnished, and my preference would be to never sleep in an extra-long twin bed again. Does anyone know if there's anything we can do about the furnishings?
Also, what's the CW on picking a move-in date? As early as possible, as late as possible, etc.?
Also, I'd say move in a couple days before orientation. There's usually some kind of activity the weekend before (when orientation is on Monday/Tuesday), but as you guys have orientation at the end of the week, arriving on Monday or Tuesday would probably be good. Then again, you're paying rent for the whole month of August anyway, so maybe you want to arrive earlier and have some fun in the city with other early classmates.

pico, I'm 99% sure that you only pay from the day you move in? Are you sure that you paid for the entire month of august? Is it a building by building thing? I know I paid prorated on both sides of my lease.piccolittle wrote:Depending on the building you're in, they might be willing to store it in the basement. I contacted UAH and they told me that the rent is prorated for the day that you move in/sign the lease HTHkwais wrote:pico, I'm 99% sure that you only pay from the day you move in? Did anyone ever confirm that signed immunization records can be substituted for the form?
And any chance UAH will let me move up my move in date by a couple days?

I scanned my immunization card, and then with paint I added my UNI and SSN onto it.Elliott_Smith wrote:Did anyone ever confirm that signed immunization records can be substituted for the form?
I then filled out the top section of the Columbia form, and scanned that. Then I combined the two PDFs together and emailed it to them.
Everything was hunky dory -- had a confirmation email the following day.

+1, mine wasn't even signed, just stamped and they sent an approval email the same dayBronck wrote:I scanned my immunization card, and then with paint I added my UNI and SSN onto it.Elliott_Smith wrote:Did anyone ever confirm that signed immunization records can be substituted for the form?

They let me move up my move in date (I wanted to get the keys on a Friday so I could move in over the weekend), but it might depend on whether someone is living in the apartment right now. I emailed Juliana and then she forwarded me on to someone in housing. Just keep in mind that your rent will be prorated up a little.Elliott_Smith wrote:Did anyone ever confirm that signed immunization records can be substituted for the form?

I'm pretty sure there are different deposit requirements for each apartment. I paid a full months rent deposit, in addition to the entire first month rent (supposed to move in on the 6th)

Re: Columbia Law Class of 2015
Yeah, but when you change your move in date, it changes the date that the lease starts on, so that first month gets prorated up and the last month prorated down so that the months come out even if that makes sense.Elliott_Smith wrote:I'm pretty sure there are different deposit requirements for each apartment. Re: Columbia Law Class of 2015
The deposit is equivalent to one months rent, no? And if it matches what they charged me for the first month, then I paid a full months rent, right?
In any case, they didn't approve the move-in date change

It's 419 W. 115th. My super handles the whole block of buildings, though (which is kind of a pain, as he gets stretched pretty thin sometimes).quaker10 wrote:It's great that your super does that - out of curiosity, which building is this?piccolittle wrote:Depending on the building you're in, they might be willing to store it in the basement. Oops, yeah, I probably just remembered paying a buttload of money and forgot that it was actually prorated.kwais wrote:pico, I'm 99% sure that you only pay from the day you move in? Haha, got an email last Monday saying that I was assigned a roommate. The guy ended up never accepting the assignment, so I'm back to no roommate. Is it ever the case that you don't get a roommate in a 2BR

Re: Columbia Law Class of 2015
We had a spare room in our 3 bed this year, but that's because our LLM roommate made the mistake of telling UAH that she was married and they made her move into a studio. We did succeed in scaring away all other prospective roommates, though, so there's always that option.Bronck wrote:Haha, got an email last Monday saying that I was assigned a roommate. I got the same email about a month ago and my roommate ended up accepting the offer a few weeks later. So, I guess it can work either way. But, that's be a sweet gig if you get a solo 2BR!Bronck wrote:Haha, got an email last Monday saying that I was assigned a roommate. For people that submitted dean's certifications, did you get any kind of confirmation when admissions received them? Much obliged.

I did not get any confirmation but I got kinda nervous and emailed them and they were pretty quick to reply saying they had gotten it but otherwise I would have no idea that they had in fact actually gotten it.KevinP wrote:For people that submitted dean's certifications, did you get any kind of confirmation when admissions received them? along those lines are people getting confirmations regarding the immunizations requirement?

^ Thanks for the quick replies. I think I'ma give them a call tomorrow. I wouldn't want something as silly a dean's cert to keep me from attending CLS.

I didn't get confirmation on the immunization forms, but I called the insurance office (212) 854-3286, and they confirmed things for me.Bronck wrote:Oh interesting. From the orientation site:
"Legal Methods, a three-week course for incoming 1Ls which serves as an introduction to the law and legal education, begins on Monday, Aug. 20 and will run through Sept. 6. The first semester Foundation Curriculum classes (Contracts, Torts and Civil Procedure) will begin on September 10."
Does this mean we all will be taking those three first sem? Kinda cool to know. Most schools I visited said the courses would depend on which section you ended up in.
