Re: Georgetown Class of 2015
I've never found it super competitive here. I share supplements and outlines with friends all the time. I really don't know a lot of people who are cutthroat - i'd imagine they don't have many fiends. I really truly love the people here. You can tell i'm serious because I don't often use superlatives.
As far as housing, I did not live on campus. They've recently remodeled, so I think a bunch of the rooms are nicer now, but I was 26 when I came in, and I could not imagine sleeping on a twin bed again, nor of putting my things in storage. Most people seemed to like their roommates, and it does allow for easy socializing. However, the three luxury buildings near school (Mass Court, 425, and Meridian) are all about 50 percent law student anyway. People often split a one bedroom with sunroom at the Meridian. It's not much more expensive than the on campus housing that way, and the building is much nicer.
I personally live in a studio in Southwest. It takes me 15 minutes to get to school, I have hardwood floors, utilities included, and I pay about 600 dollars less than my friends living near school do. However, the area has no nightlife. If you're comfortable with that, apartments are not actually hard to find. Most of my 2L and 3L friends are either in Dupont or right near school in the aforementioned luxury buildings.

Re: Georgetown Class of 2015
She pretty much covered it all.
Clinics: I haven't done one but I want to apply to one for next year. Either Appellate or Institute for Public Representation (you become a civil litigator). Many friends are in clinics now as 2Ls and seem to enjoy them. My understanding is that it's rare but possible not to get the one you want. Maximize your chances by applying twice. Don't worry about it yet.
Competition: This is a nebulous topic, especially for 0Ls who don't even know what law school is like. My friends at some lower-ranked law schools describe a much more grim situation, where people actually openly discuss their grades and employment opportunities. For me and my friends, this is basically never mentioned, except in close quarters with someone you know well. So that isn't a problem, but I think at any law school (including reports from friends at all kinds of schools here) you get the impression that a lot of people are working really hard around you. Law school can be and will be stressful at times - my advice is to get plenty of exercise and to take up meditation; if you're at Georgetown, I'd suggest looking into Lawyers in Balance (google it).
Gewirz: Neither volsi nor I lived there. I have a good number of friends who did live there. It's nice enough and certainly is convenient. I think it's really a judgment call where you want to live, so I am not going to suggest one thing or another - the places volsi mentioned near school are nice, but are still near school. I enjoy walking ~20 minutes to school everyday and living with a non-law student; it can be refreshing to get away at times. That said, I'm sure I would have done fine in Gewirz and to each his own.

Just admitted from being held. Does anyone have information on financial aid applications?

Volsi! Not to cyberstalk you or anything, but the husband and I live in SW too. I wonder if we have ever crossed paths on the way to the metro...volsi wrote: I personally live in a studio in Southwest.
We have been thinking about relocating to Capitol Hill, but it's comforting to hear you say that SW is doable. Notwithstanding the lack of nightlife (and cafes, restaurants, gyms, good cleaners, specialty grocery stores, etc.) I like our current place--it's affordable, and we have a ton of space--and the idea of moving again makes me want to throw a temper tantrum.
How do you commute? Is it a nuisance to have to transfer metro lines? Do you ever bike to campus from SW?

I hear a lot that if you go to Gtown, you need to be above the median to get a good job (not sure if this is in regards to just big law or any type of good job really)..so was just wondering, how difficult is it to do well once you're at the school i mean, im assuming the majority of ppl at the school are really good students, so does it end up being tough to do well? (i.e. do the students who do well just study more/the ppl ranked at the bottom slacked off, do grades tend to be just random at times, its a product of being naturally good at the types of things the exams test etc). Thanks!!

According to the ASW, financial aid deadline is next week, March 1st, but the GULC financial aid "yellow form" isn't even posted yet. Am I missing something, or is this pretty strange?

Right. Pretty weird. I'm going to call their office today.zylaxice wrote:According to the ASW, financial aid deadline is next week, March 1st, but the GULC financial aid "yellow form" isn't even posted yet. Am I missing something, or is this pretty strange?
Also, has anyone received an admitted student's packet? I just have a cream colored holiday card envelope.

I got access to the yellow form on ASW. If you log on, on the right hand side under ANNOUNCEMENTS it says that the yellow form is now available and you can access through a link on there.

I kept trying to log in using the NetID credentials but then I figured out you have to create a whole new one on the yellow form website. It's on the right hand side if that helps.eaper wrote:Thanks! Aw, you can cyberstalk me anytime. PM me if you want to ask me questions somewhere like the luxurious Starbucks in the Safeway.abstract wrote:Volsi! I take the 74 up to 7th and E NW and then I walk the rest of the way. It's refreshing to go those 5 blocks in the morning - I wake up and get all my vitamin D in. I used to take the Circulator but then they took it away. On the way back I usually walk to Gallery Place from school and take the Green to Waterfront. It's close enough that I don't bother with the transfer. But I always get to school at least a half hour before my classes start anyway.
I would bike, but my legs are too short for anything but children's bikes. I'm not kidding. I can't teach the floor when on a bike. Johndhi knows, because he bought a bike off me after I couldn't ride it.

Your netID and gocard thing? I tried to get that to work but it keeps throwing an error.=\46nyc wrote:I kept trying to log in using the NetID credentials but then I figured out you have to create a whole new one on the yellow form website. I mean... everyone's on a curve. Are some people just naturally good at tests? Yeah. Do some people spend all their time studying? Sure. Do the people at the very bottom slack off? Most of them. Do some people who slack off do well? Sure.applesoranges123 wrote:I hear a lot that if you go to Gtown, you need to be above the median to get a good job (not sure if this is in regards to just big law or any type of good job really)..so was just wondering, how difficult is it to do well once you're at the school i mean, im assuming the majority of ppl at the school are really good students, so does it end up being tough to do well? I can't tell you how hard it will be for you. I don't know how you think, your work ethic or your writing style. I don't know how good you are under pressure or whether you like deadlines. I don't know if you'll go on rants on the exams that reduce your grades to nothing or whether you'll refuse to answer the question asked or whether you are a brilliant genius who can sleep in class and get all As.
I can tell you that I have a hard time suspending disbelief on exams - I can't ever quite fully give myself over to the fact pattern. So I slightly underperform my actual understanding. However, I don't procrastinate, I have a strong work ethic, I refuse to pull all nighters, and I did so much partying in my early 20s that most days I am in bed around 11. I did fine. I'm employed. I'm happy.

Hmm.. they have too many names for too many logins/passwords/id numbers/credentials, but this is what I did:eaper wrote:Your netID and gocard thing? Go to https://www.theloanprogram.org/eapp/?allow=yellow
Then on the right hand side I clicked New Users: Sign up today!
And then you can make up your own username, password, and use your real name and email (obviously) and your "Georgetown University ID/Go Card ID #" which if you go here:
http://www.law.georgetown.edu/admission ... ntials.cfm
It's the 9-digit number.
Then you just log in using the username you just created and you're golden.
I had problems with my NetID credentials to begin with and I had them reset my password and fix it for me, but you don't have to use the NetID for the yellow form, even though I think I remember them saying somewhere you needed the NetID for it.

I wouldn't worry too much about getting your finaid forms in by March 1st. The sooner you submit them the sooner you'll hear back, but there is no real hard deadline. The same thing happened last year with the yellow form being delayed

Oh dang, "(Please note that your Georgetown University ID needed for this form will be made available in mid/late January. ID credentials are then assigned several days after an offer of admission. See the "Your Credentials" link in the right sidebar of this Admitted Students Website.)" is what I read, but I guess that's not the same log in? They do have too many log ins ._.46nyc wrote:Hmm.. they have too many names for too many logins/passwords/id numbers/credentials, but this is what I did:eaper wrote:Your netID and gocard thing? Re: Georgetown Class of 2015
Well, it's kind of the same log in in that the info is all on the same page of the ASW... If you go to "Your Credentials," the NetID and temporary NetID password are what people are having trouble with (I'm assuming, since that was what I had trouble with) but since I got that fixed, I haven't used the NetID or the password. For the yellow form you only need the University ID/GOCard Number from the Your Credentials page:eaper wrote:

University ID - (GOCard) Number: When you arrive on campus, you will be issued a University ID card, referred to as your GOCard. It will display your picture, your student affiliation, your UID number (also referred to as your 9-digit GOCard number), and other information.
Your University ID (9-digit GOCard) Number: #########
Everything should work for the yellow form at least, if you have the 9 digit number. I wouldn't worry about NetID - it doesn't seem to have any purpose yet. And just PM me if you need any help!

Does anyone else not have the "Your Credentials" page listed on the Admitted Student's Website? I really hope I'm not being stupid and looking in the wrong place, but I swear I do not see it listed anywhere on the right toolbar.

I was able to log in last Friday, and my credentials only showed up on Wednesday....so if you don't see it, maybe it will just take a few days. I've learned that the worst part of the law school admissions process isn't getting in-- it's filling out godawful forms post-admission.46nyc wrote:southernsuperstar wrote:Does anyone else not have the "Your Credentials" page listed on the Admitted Student's Website?
