I sent my aid offers with my tax returns. Though I got more $$$ than my numbers usually do. So I'm taking that as they negotiated because I'm not a special snowflake.Mr. Somebody wrote:Btw has anyone.successfully negotiated an increase with them yet? Just wondering because I sent them my other offer last week and havent heard back. With a bunch of people still waiting for initial offers I wonder when they'll get to the negotiations

Re: Cornell Law Class of 2015
So I've been killing time at work by tracking LSN a lot the past couple weeks to see how people are responding to schollies.
http://cornell.lawschoolnumbers.com/app ... =3&type=jd
I shared the spreadsheet Ive been using
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... MQ3c#gid=0
Its always interesting to me to see what kind of yield the schools are getting after they invest in a scholarship offer.
I don't know what the yield for other T14 full tuition schollies is like, but 7 Dean's Scholarship recipients are reported on LSN. 10 are awarded each year, so that's a pretty good reporting rate (and I think lends credence to the idea that people with higher stats and more cycle success are more likely to report on LSN). Out of the 7, 6 have already withdrawn. The last one is deciding between the Dean's and ~$50-60k at CCN.
I'm also struck by the number of people that withdrew and took other offers from other schools without bothering to try to negotiate and get an increase.
So according to this around $2.6 million was left on the table (keeping in mind the huge caveat about self-reporting, under-reporting, etc, and that I left out anything under 60k)
Moral of the story, which I guess we already knew, a lot of money has been freed up and you should remain vigilant if you are looking for more...

While I'm happy, it makes me wish I had gotten a few more points on the LSAT

So, if I haven't gotten a room assignment in Hughes yet, should I assume that I won't be getting one?

They finally sent the housing email. Anyone know about that private complex they talked about? Collegetown Terrace? It sounds very expensive.

Hey, a Q for you guys
I got a scholly from Cornell, but there was a footnote at the bottom of the offer letter:
"Please note that scholarship awards are given with the understanding that there is a moral obligation to repay the Law School if future financial circumstances permit repayment."
Did any of you (non Dean's or other special) scholly recipients get this kind of offer? I'm trying to figure out if this is normal for Cornell, or whether they're trying to scam me with some kind of forgivable loan masquerading as a scholarship.

Many schools give grants on the base of need...and then expect you to pay it back if you land a great jobSaintFond wrote:Hey, a Q for you guys

Re: Cornell Law Class of 2015
That makes sense, but then why would they call it a scholarship instead of a grant? Berkeley offers need based grants too, but I don't *think* it calls them scholarships. Still seems odd to me or even slightly shady.msblaw89 wrote:Many schools give grants on the base of need...and then expect you to pay it back if you land a great jobSaintFond wrote:Hey, a Q for you guys

Good information to know, though, because I had submitted a matching scholarship app to Berkeley, and I am still waiting to hear back. However, if it's really a need based grant, there's a pretty good chance Berkeley will not match.

Re: Cornell Law Class of 2015
I had it at the end of my letter and my award was definitely not need based. I wouldn't pay it any mind and Cornell isn't the only school to attach such a note
Its amusing though when law schools try to suggest they are doing you a big favor by giving you a merit award when its usually the matriculant doing the admissions office a big favor

Yeah. As I was searching around on the forums, I found someone saying that Cornell's "grants" were both need & merit based. Plus, I realize they are giving me far too much money relative to my (parents) income. Berk, for example, flat out told me I was ineligible for NB grants after they saw my parents' FAFSA information.Mr. Somebody wrote:I had it at the end of my letter and my award was definitely not need based. Makes me roll my eyes a little bit, but are there any real repercussions for not repaying? Or is it just them tacking on that little note in the slightest off-chance you might be guilted into donating to the school?
On that note, I got called by my UG school today, and I made the mistake of answering the phone. Ended up donating like $100 out of my small savings and salary, lol

speaking of scholarships...
I'm wondering how long did most of you have to wait to hear from the financial aid office?
